Wigantol is an oily vitamin solution. The main active ingredient is colecalciferol (20,000 IU in 1 ml). Available in a 10 ml bottle format. It has analogues in the form of chewable tablets, the price of which is 4 times higher.
In what cases is prescribed
Vitamin D in the form of an aqueous or oily solution is prescribed even to newborn children to ensure the correct metabolic process. However, the list of diseases for the prevention and treatment of which similar drugs are used is quite large:
- metabolic disorders of calcium or phosphorus, their insufficient amount in the blood;
- a number of diseases of the endocrine system;
- progressive diseases of bone tissue, characterized by an increase in fragility and a violation of normal morphogenesis;
- chronic disorders of the pancreas, stomach or intestines;
- pathologies of connective tissues (skin, cartilage, joints).
A different degree of deficiency of this element in the body affects premature disorders in the brain, malfunctions in the regulation of insulin levels. During gestation, a deficiency can provoke various serious diseases of the baby. As well as recent studies by doctors from Iran have proven the relationship of the amount of vitamin D in the body with a tendency to obesity.
Instructions for use and dosage
According to international standards, the need for vitamin D is 2,000 IU daily. Taking into account consumption with food and self-development by the body, vitamin D in drops for adults is prescribed:
- from 650 to 1300 IU / day - prevention of deficiency d3;
- from 1300 to 5300 IU / day - treatment for reducing bone mineralization. The course of treatment is at least 12 months;
- from 3300 to 5300 IU / day - prevention of failure of absorption of vitamin D3 by the small intestine;
- from 10,000 to 20,000 IU / day - treatment of diseases of the endocrine system and rare hereditary pathologies associated with impaired metabolic processes of calcium and phosphorus. The concentration of the missing substances is checked with the help of a blood test, according to the results of which the dosage of vitamin d3 is adjusted.
The drug is used with milk or other liquid in a sufficient amount, mixing or drinking.
Features of taking drops for babies
Vitamin D intake for children is possible after reaching the age of four weeks. For the prevention of rickets, 650 IU is prescribed daily. The dosage is doubled if the baby was born prematurely. The drug is canceled during the summer season, but resume taking in less sunny months, especially in winter. Application is possible during the first two years of life.
Treatment of rickets requires the appointment of 1300-5300 IU per day. The duration of the course is 12 months, however, adjustment is possible based on the individual characteristics of the baby.
Contraindications, side effects, overdose
Contraindications for taking drugs containing d3 are:
- intolerance to any substance in the composition;
- excess calcium in the blood or urine;
- impaired normal kidney function;
- liver disease
- active tuberculosis;
- age less than 1 month.
With caution apply:
- with simultaneous administration with drugs to stimulate the work of the heart muscle (myocardium);
- at the time of taking diuretics that increase the amount of potassium excreted and calcium reabsorption;
- in infants with a reduced fontanel.
During the bearing of the baby and its breastfeeding, it is better to abandon the use of vitamin D3, since its excess can significantly harm the baby's health.
The only side effect is a pronounced reaction of the body to the vitamin. It can manifest itself as a violation of well-being (nausea, dizziness), a sharp decrease in weight, a state of depression, muscle pain and cramps. If any symptom occurs, you must take a blood test and immediately discontinue the drug.
An overdose is characterized by all the symptoms of poisoning, as well as clouding of consciousness, a state of apathy. In severe cases, the development of cataracts, the release of bile into the blood, the deposition of calcium salts in the soft tissues. Such conditions are extremely dangerous for health, therefore, they require urgent hospitalization of the patient.
Like any other, vitamin D3 is necessary and beneficial for the body in a moderate dosage. It is prescribed by a doctor based on the individual characteristics of each person. Therefore, you should not take vitamin D without good reason and the advice of a specialist.
