Inflammatory processes of the musculoskeletal system are regularly diagnosed in people aged 40-50 years, as well as in those who are actively involved in sports or hard physical work. Such processes bring pain and complicate motor functions, so doctors prescribe injections of Arthrosan as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic that speeds up the recovery process of the musculoskeletal system.
Material Content:
Composition, release form and packaging
The trade name of the drug is Arthrosan®. It belongs to the group of non-steroidal drugs that stop inflammatory processes and have an analgesic effect. In its chemical structure, the drug is a representative of the class of oxycams based on enolic acid.
Available in the form of tablets and injection. Doctors recommend the use of Arthrosan injections intramuscularly, because then the therapeutic effect is achieved faster and the patient receives relief from joint pain.
The solution is available in standard 2.5 ml glass ampoules as a greenish liquid. 1 ml of the drug contains 6 mg of meloxicam as the main active ingredient, and a number of additional components: 3.75 mg of meglumine, 100 mg of tetrahydrofurfuril, 5 mg of glycine and 3 mg of sodium chloride.
Arthrosan is sold by medical prescription in standard contour packs, each of which contains up to 5 ampoules and a paper instruction.
Pharmacological properties and pharmacokinetics
Meloxicam stops inflammatory processes in the tissues and stops the production of the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme, as well as the division of prostaglandins. After ingestion, the substance reduces the activity of foci of inflammation and reduces the permeability of the vascular walls. All this reduces the sensitivity of nerve endings, thereby lowering the pain syndrome.
In plasma, the concentration of the drug reaches its maximum value within one and a half hours, and in the blood - 3-5 days. The substance in the liver breaks down into metabolites, and they are excreted along with excrement and urine (an average of 13-25 hours).
Why prescribe Arthrosan in injections
Arthrosan is used as initial therapy, as well as short-term symptomatic treatment for various inflammatory processes in the joints.
Among them:
- arthrosis (osteoarthritis);
- rheumatoid arthritis;
- Ankylosing spondylitis;
- arthropathy;
- sciatica;
- periarthritis of the shoulder;
- osteoarthrosis;
- osteochondrosis;
And also with all other destructive processes in the muscles and joints, which are accompanied by increased pain.
Instructions for use of the drug
Injections of Arthrosan into adults are done deep into the muscle, since direct entry into a vein can provoke serious complications in the patient.
The dosage of the drug differs depending on the severity of the disease:
- With osteoarthritis with acute pain, 7.5 mg of the drug is prescribed per day. If the pain is extremely severe, then the amount of medicine is increased to 15 mg per day.
- With rheumatoid arthritis, Artrosan is prescribed at 15 mg per day. If the pains are not very strong and a person can tolerate them, then the dose is reduced to 7.5 mg.
- With spondylitis, an ankylosing patient is shown 15 mg per day.
Due to the aggressiveness of the substance, its use is recommended to be limited to 3-5 days, while acute pain is observed, and after its leveling, replace injections with oral medications.
The maximum daily dose of the drug (in any form, as well as in total) is 15 mg, while it can not be combined with other non-steroidal medicines of a similar effect.
During pregnancy and lactation
Arthrosan is contraindicated in women who are in position or nursing infants. This applies to all dosage forms of the drug. Meloxicam, as an active substance, passes through any histohematological barriers (including the placenta) and can have a pathogenic effect on the formation of the child's body.
Since prostaglandin synthesis is directly related to female fertility, meloxicam may reduce the chances of pregnancy. For this reason, Arthrosan is not recommended during the planning period of offspring.
Drug interaction
It is forbidden to use the medication together with similar drugs of the same group, since this will not only not be useful, but can also cause serious complications.
When prescribing therapy, the doctor should take into account that the simultaneous administration of Arthrosan with any NSAIDs can cause ulcerative lesions and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. And the use of antihypertensive drugs will lead to a decrease in their effectiveness.
Interaction with lithium-based products will provoke the accumulation of the latter in the body and cause an overdose. The use of Arthrosan together with methotrexate threatens anemia and leukopenia, and with diuretics there is a risk of developing renal failure.
In addition, taking medication using intrauterine contraceptives reduces the effectiveness of the latter, which should be considered by women. There is a risk of bleeding with the simultaneous use of Arthrosan and anticoagulants, as well as thrombolytics and antiplatelet agents.
Contraindications, side effects and overdose
It is forbidden to prescribe a substance for allergies to meloxicam and other components, as well as children under 15 years of age and pregnant women.
In addition, you can not use the medicine if the patient:
- lactose intolerance, NSAIDs;
- glucose galactose malabsorption;
- heart dysfunction;
- coronary artery bypass grafting performed less than a month ago;
- ulcerative lesions, bleeding or inflammatory processes of the gastrointestinal tract;
- diseases of the liver and kidneys.
The elderly should use Arthrosan with caution, as well as patients with diabetes and alcohol dependence. Among the side effects there is nausea and disruption of the digestive tract, anemia, allergic rashes, bronchospasm and dizziness. Blurred vision and swelling may also occur.
If the medicine is taken incorrectly, there is a risk of overdose, which is accompanied by vomiting and bleeding in the digestive tract, as well as impaired renal and hepatic function. In the absence of immediate medical attention, there is a risk of asystole and respiratory arrest. In case of an overdose, the patient should immediately clear the stomach and conduct symptomatic therapy.
Analogues of Arthrosan in injections
If the patient has a number of contraindications that make it impossible to take Arthrosan, the drug can be replaced with an analogue in structure or therapeutic effect. At the same time, drugs are used both in tablet form and in the form of injections.
Among the analogues are the most effective:
- Movalis is a solution for injection into the muscle based on meloxicam with a similar effective manifestation. It is used for inflammatory processes in the joints and muscles.
- Meloxicam - flat tablets for oral administration based on the active substance meloxicam. The drug slows down the enzymatic activity of COX-2 and thereby stops inflammation in the musculoskeletal system.
- Melbek - the drug is presented in the form of a solution and tablets. The medicine belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Replacement of Arthrosan with other medicines should be carried out only with the permission and knowledge of the attending physician, since the therapeutic effect of taking analogues can occur in a shorter time.
Injections of Arthrosan are administered intramuscularly for any pathologies that affect the joints of a person. The medication effectively resists the manifestations of the inflammatory process and completely restores the functions of movement.
