A medicine that increases the elasticity and tone of the walls of the veins is most in demand with heaviness in the legs, which is an invariable companion of varicose veins. Troxevasin tablets can be used for other diseases associated with increased permeability of blood vessels, water retention in tissues. Pregnant women take this remedy as prescribed by a doctor to eliminate edema in the II and III trimesters.

Composition (active substance) of tablets

The proprietary drug Troxevasin is released by the Bulgarian company Balkanpharma-Razgrad. Hard capsules in the home are often called tablets. The first are distinguished by the fact that they have a gelatin shell under which there is a powder or granules. Auxiliary ingredients in capsules are not at all or less, compared with tablets.

The active ingredient of Troxevasin is troxerutin, consisting of 60–90% of trihydroxyethylrutoside. The rest is impurities that reduce the quality of the drug. Troxerutin is erroneously called a bioflavonoid. In fact, this is not a natural, but a semisynthetic compound obtained from rutin (rutoside). This bioflavonoid is isolated from citrus or Japanese sophora, treated with various chemicals (ammonia water, ethanol, etc.).

It is important to know the composition of any medications used for treatment, prevention and recovery. Useful are considered funds with a high content of trihydroxyethyl rutoside in troxerutin.The patented drug contains less impurities; in generics, the degree of “purity” may be low. Excipients of Troxevasin - lactose and yellow dye (E110).

Pharmacological action, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Troxerutin is an angioprotector acting on venules and veins, namely on the inner walls of blood vessels. Various damages in these structures cause diseases: inflammation of the walls of the veins (phlebitis), in combination with thrombosis (thrombophlebitis), impaired blood outflow due to pathologies of the venous walls and valves (chronic venous insufficiency, CVI).

The endothelium is a layer of cells inside the blood vessels. According to modern concepts, it performs protective and endocrine functions. Cells produce compounds to regulate vascular tone, the penetration of substances into and out, and control blood coagulation. Vein diseases are characterized by a decrease in the functional activity of the endothelium, the development of thrombosis.

How does troxerutin work:

  • strengthens the connection between endothelial cells;
  • normalizes permeability, increases resistance to damage to the vascular wall;
  • prevents adhesion and adhesion to the walls of circulating cells, the subsidence of cholesterol;
  • reduces viscosity, improves blood flow, improving its rheological properties;
  • reduces the risk of microthrombi formation;
  • normalizes blood outflow during CVI;
  • reduces inflammation of the walls of the veins.

The medicine regulates the production of endothelin, an endothelial secretion that has a vasoconstrictor and vasodilator effect, depending on the concentration.
After taking Troxevasin, the capsule shell dissolves in the stomach. Troxerutin is released and absorbed in the small intestine. The medicine easily passes histohematic "filters", after which it penetrates the tissues. Within 2 hours, its plasma concentration is sufficient to maintain a therapeutic effect. It is metabolized in the liver by 92% of the drug, 11% does not change. Excretion is carried out with bile through the digestive tract, as well as by the kidneys.

Why is Troxevasin prescribed?

The medicine is used to improve the condition of veins with varicose veins, CVI, hemorrhoids. The drug reduces the manifestations of inflammation, strengthens blood vessels. At the same time, the elasticity of the walls increases, which is important for the prevention of complications.

We list what Troxevasin helps from:

  • pain and swelling with varicose veins of the lower extremities (mainly in the early stages);
  • periphlebitis and thrombophlebitis;
  • CVI with a predominance of edema, a feeling of heaviness, soreness of the legs, the appearance of seizures;
  • pain, bruising, edema with bruises, sprains and other traumatic injuries;
  • inflammation of the skin over the affected veins with varicose dermatitis;
  • hemorrhoids.

Troxevasin will not help with edema caused by diseases of the kidneys, heart, liver.
The drug is used for the first symptoms of CVI - fatigue, swelling of the legs in the ankles, numbness and tingling. Discomfort is usually felt stronger at the end of the day. The use of troxevasin for hemorrhoids and varicose veins reduces the expansion of the veins, which are associated with stagnation of blood, the formation of painful nodes. The medicine increases vascular tone and blood flow, increases lymph outflow.
In diabetic retinopathy (a complication of diabetes mellitus), lymphatic edema, Troxevasin is included in the complex therapy.

Instructions for use and dosage

How to take Troxevasin tablets, in what dosages, depends on the stage of CVI and varicose veins, the severity of symptoms in these and other diseases. Capsules are swallowed with food, washed down with water.

Recommended doses and duration of course:

  • Treatment of diseases of the veins of the lower extremities, hemorrhoids: 1 capsule in the morning and in the evening, only twice a day for 2-4 weeks.
  • Maintenance therapy: 1 capsule in the morning for 2–4 weeks.
  • Diabetic retinopathy and lymphatic edema: 1-2 capsules during main meals (3 times a day). The course is from 3 to 4 weeks.

The average duration of treatment with Troxevasin is 3 weeks.May be taken longer as maintenance therapy.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding

There is no evidence of a negative effect of troxerutin on the fetus from clinical trials. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and doctors do not recommend the use of troxevasin in the first trimester of pregnancy. You can take the drug in the last two trimesters and during lactation, but only as directed by a doctor.

Drug interaction

It is recommended to take Troxevasin with ascorbic acid. The action of the vitamin enhances the effect of troxerutin. Features of the interaction of the drug with other drugs are still unknown.

Compatibility of troxevasin tablets with alcohol

A study of the properties of troxerutin, its pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics made it possible to determine the interaction with ethanol. Troxevasin should not be taken with alcohol.

Men can drink capsules 18 hours before and 8 hours after drinking alcohol. For women, similar time periods are 24 and 14 hours. The duration of the intervals was determined in accordance with the data on the absorption and metabolism of ethanol and troxerutin.
Ethanol affects the state of blood vessels. Determining the degree of impact, its nature is still the subject of study and discussion of scientists. Almost simultaneously, the results of studies prove the use of small doses of alcohol for blood vessels, and data refuting these findings.
The best solution is to give up alcohol for the entire period of treatment.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

You can not take Troxevasin with a diagnosed allergy to troxerutin and / or excipients. Other contraindications are gastric ulcer, exacerbation of gastritis, I trimester of pregnancy. Precautions are necessary for violations of the liver, kidneys, heart problems. Troxevasin is usually not prescribed for children.

Possible side effects of troxerutin:

  • skin rash, mainly in the form of urticaria;
  • Quincke's edema (swelling of the face or only lips, tongue, throat, hands);
  • gastrointestinal tract disorders (abdominal pain, increased gas formation, diarrhea);
  • difficulty breathing as a result of an allergic reaction (very rare);
  • headache, fatigue, redness of the face (very rare).

In case of an overdose, the symptoms characteristic of the side effect increase. When treatment is discontinued, the reactions quickly disappear. Seek medical help if an overdose leads to more severe manifestations.

Analogues of the drug

In addition to troxerutin, angioprotective properties are exhibited by rutoside, diosmin and hesperidin, escin, extracts of gingo biloba leaves, chestnut seeds. It is sometimes difficult to understand this variety of active substances, preparations based on them. It is important to remember that the full analogs of Troxevasin tablets for the active substance have the same effect, regardless of the cost in pharmacies.
The identical composition are drugs sold under the name Troxerutin.

Troxerutin capsules produced in Russia, Bulgaria and Belarus are cheaper than Troxevasin by 150-100 rubles. Russian and Bulgarian preparations contain 300 mg of troxerutin, Belarusian - 200 mg.

Group analogues of Troxevasin (according to the mechanism of action):

  • Phlebodia 600;
  • Venoplant;
  • Antistax
  • Detralex
  • Venoruton;
  • Anavenol;
  • Phlebof;
  • Bilobil;
  • Venitan
  • Aescusan.

The preparations from the list include bioflavonoids and other natural compounds obtained from plant materials. Phlebodia 600, Phlebofa contain diosmin, Detralex - diosmin and hesperidin. The composition of Antistax includes an extract of red grape leaves. Venoruton, Anavenol contain rutoside, Aescusan - escin.
Since all angioprotectors have a similar effect, the choice of a particular drug depends on the individual tolerance of the components, the experience and preferences of the attending physician, and the material capabilities of the patient.
