Polyoxidonium acts as a new immunomodulator and antioxidant, which carries out several mechanisms of exposure, while increasing the body's resistance to various infections. However, before taking, you should read the instructions for use of Polyoxidonium tablets.

Description of the release form and composition

The main active compound of the drug is azoximer bromide.

For convenience, Polyoxidonium is prescribed to patients for the treatment of various diseases in several variable forms of use:

  • Polyoxidonium tablets 12 mg;
  • suppositories 6 and 12 mg;
  • lyophilisate for the preparation of an injection solution of 3 and 6 mg.

Additional compounds present in the composition of the drug include: povidone, betacoraten, mannitol, lactose monohydrate, steric acid. These substances are classified as auxiliary, they do not have a therapeutic effect.

What helps Polyoxidonium tablets

Polyoxidonium has a moderate immunostimulating effect, while reducing the manifestation of an immunodeficiency state. In this case, there is a significant increase in the body's resistance to infections. And also, the medication has antioxidant properties, thanks to which a detoxifying effect is possible.

The main chemical compound has a direct effect on the process of antibody formation.

In secondary immunodeficiencies, this drug is used to increase the effectiveness of treatment and helps to reduce the duration of therapy. Thanks to this medicine, the need for the use of antibiotic drugs, bronchodilators and glucocorticosteroids is reduced for patients. A fairly good tolerance and assimilation is due to the fact that the drug does not have carcinogenic, allergenic, toxic, mutagenic or teratogenic activity.

It is also worth noting that Polyoxidonium is able to activate the bactericidal property of saliva. After internal administration, lymphoid cells of the lymph nodes of the digestive tract are activated. As a result, the protective functions of the body to infectious agents are significantly enhanced. The form of a suppository or intravenous solution is extremely popular for the restoration of immune protection after secondary immunodeficiencies that were caused by burns, malignant tumors, injuries or various infections.

Due to the high molecular weight structure, this medication is often prescribed to remove heavy metals or toxins from the body. As a result, the severity of signs of intoxication of the body decreases and the pain syndrome stops.

With complex therapy, an immunomodulator is able to reduce adverse reactions while taking other drugs.

Based on the pharmacological properties, it is advisable to prescribe this therapeutic agent in such cases:

  • viral or bacterial lesions of acute or chronic course;
  • complicated ARI for arthritis;
  • for accelerated tissue regeneration (burns, injuries);
  • in the postoperative period to prevent the development of infectious complications;
  • tuberculous process;
  • cancer patients, as well as to minimize the effects of radiation therapy and drugs with hepatotoxic effect;
  • allergic diseases of acute or chronic course, which were complicated by infections of a bacterial nature;
  • bronchial asthma complicated by infectious pathologies;
  • chronic viral diseases of the urinary system;
  • in cases of inflammatory processes of an infectious nature in the oropharynx;
  • with viral or bacterial etymology of inflammatory lesions of the genitourinary system;
  • in combination with other medicinal medicines to strengthen and enhance the body's immune defense.

Often, this medication is used for preventive purposes, as well as for the correction of immunodeficiency states that are directly related to the natural aging process.

During pregnancy and lactation

Any dosage form of Polyoxidonium is not recommended for use during pregnancy, as well as breastfeeding. This limitation is due to the fact that no studies have been conducted to date that confirm complete safety for a pregnant woman. For therapeutic treatment during lactation, the question of the abolition of breastfeeding should be decided, since the main active compound is able to be excreted together with breast milk.
