Omez is a popular antiulcer drug needed to treat gastrointestinal diseases. Produced in India. In our country, Omez tablets have been used for many years, showing positive results in the healing of ulcerative lesions of the digestive system.
Composition and release forms
The drug Omez is available in various variations to facilitate the maximum therapeutic effect and ease of use:
- Gelatin capsules containing small white granules.
- The solution (available in vials) is used for intravenous infusion.
- Powder Omez Insta. In it, sucrose and flavoring are added to the active substances.
- Omez D - is used in the treatment of especially severe diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
In any form of release of the substance, its main component is omeprazole, which acts as an inhibitor of the production of gastric acid. But auxiliary ingredients may vary.
What pills help
Omez is intended for the treatment of diseases associated with the digestion of food:
- Pancreatitis (or inflammation of the pancreas). The medicine reduces the production of pepsin and thereby leads to a relief of pathology.
- Gastritis. The main cause of the disease is an increase in the acidity of the gastric juice. Symptoms - pain in the stomach, bloating, severe nausea, vomiting, painful belching. The use of Omez leads to a decrease in acidity to a normal level and contributes to the cessation of inflammatory processes.
- Helicobacter ulcers.
- Esophagitis, or inflammation of the esophagus. The main symptoms are a burning sensation in the throat, discomfort and pain.
- Gastric and duodenal ulcer. With this disease, Omez has the most beneficial effect, leading to the healing of the affected areas of the mucous membrane. The drug inhibits the production of hydrochloric acid, lowering its concentration.Which, together with a proper diet, reduces the burden on the affected organ and stimulates regenerative processes. The first signs of relief of the disease appear after 5-6 days. But at the same time you will have to drink the entire prescribed course.
- Omez tablets also help with gastroesophageal reflux disease. With such a chronic pathology, regular discharge of the contents of the stomach into the upper gastrointestinal tract and, accordingly, damage to the mucous membranes of the esophagus occur. Suppression of omeprazole secretion allows in a fairly short time to alleviate the patient's condition.
- In addition, the drug is recommended as a medication that protects the gastric mucosa in pathologies requiring the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. For example, with colitis, radiculitis, etc. Almost all pain medications have an extremely negative effect on the stomach.
Instructions for use Omez
Omez and Omez D in the form of capsules and powder are taken orally 30 minutes before a meal, washed down with a sufficient amount of clean water (not tea or juice). But if you forgot to take the medicine on time, then you can do this while eating. The positive effect will be slightly lower.
The dose of the drug varies depending on the specific disease and the severity of its course:
- In the acute form of duodenal ulcer, you need to take 1 capsule of Omez (20 mg) per day for 2 weeks. But if there is no improvement, then the daily intake can be increased to 2 doses, maintaining an interval of 12 hours.
- During an exacerbation of gastric ulcer and with erosive esophagitis per day, 1-2 capsules are needed for 1-2 months.
- If the appearance of ulcers and the destruction of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract is caused by the use of painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), then 1 capsule per day is enough. The course in this case should be long - 1-2 months.
- When Helicobacter is detected, it is necessary to add antibacterial agents to the medication (1 capsule twice a day), which the therapist will select for you.
- To prevent acute manifestations of gastrointestinal ulcer Omez, you need to continue to drink 1 capsule per day for a long time (up to 6-7 months). It happens that complete healing is delayed. In this case, it is possible to use the drug for 1 year.
- With Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the daily dose of the medication is prescribed by the doctor based on the results of the analysis of gastric juice. Most often, it is 60 mg (3 capsules) per day, and it is taken at a time. If there is no improvement, then it is allowed to take from 80 to 120 mg per day twice a day, 40 or 60 mg, respectively.
Treatment with omeprazole is recommended for courses of 1-2 months, taking breaks from two weeks to several months. This is necessary so that the stomach does not lose the ability to produce the right amount of hydrochloric acid. Deviating from the instructions for use is strictly not recommended.
Omez Insta is intended for those who cannot swallow the capsule. The dosage and duration of taking the drug in powder form is the same as in the case of capsules. But first you need to prepare a suspension (i.e. a mixture). To do this, take 1 bag of the substance, pour it into a clean glass, add 1.5–2 tablespoons of warm boiled water, stir the composition and drink immediately. To prepare a suspension immediately before use.
During pregnancy and lactation
It is strictly forbidden to take this medicine during the period of gestation. The doctor can prescribe the drug only in critical cases, when violations of the digestive tract directly threaten the life of the expectant mother. In this case, as a rule, Omez D is prescribed, containing in equal doses omeprazole and domperidone.
If the need for the use of an inhibitor of gastric secretion arose during lactation, the baby will have to be weaned and transferred to artificial feeding.
Contraindications, side effects and overdose
Omez has a fairly sparing effect on the stomach and in general on the digestive tract. But still, in some cases, its use is undesirable. These include:
- children's (especially early) age;
- identified individual intolerance or hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug;
- bowel obstruction;
- violation of the integrity of the walls of any sections of the digestive tract;
- digestive surgery carried out immediately before the disease;
- gastrointestinal bleeding;
- pregnancy of any period and period of breastfeeding;
- the use of drugs prepared on the basis of St. John's wort herb.
- and co-administration of omez and such drugs as warfarin, diazepam, ketoconazole or clarithromycin is also unacceptable.
It is extremely rare, but still, unpleasant side effects can occur during treatment with omeprazole:
- headache;
- feeling of nausea (up to vomiting);
- constipation or, conversely, diarrhea;
- dry mouth
- dizziness of varying intensity;
- failures in sleep mode;
- muscle weakness;
- muscle and joint pain;
- a decrease in the number of platelets and white blood cells in the blood;
- hives;
- irritable itching.
Nevertheless, such manifestations are more likely an exception. In most cases, patients taking Omez tablets do not experience any discomfort.
An overdose is a completely different matter. The main signs indicating ingestion of an overestimated amount of omeprazole will be:
- headache;
- confused consciousness;
- significant pulse arrhythmia;
- a variety of visual impairment and excessive sweating.
At the first signs of an overdose, it is necessary to do a gastric lavage and immediately call a doctor.
Note! Omeprazole alters the effect of certain drugs. Therefore, if you are already taking any other medicines, be sure to notify your doctor about this.
Analogs of antiulcer drug
Pharmaceutical enterprises in different countries produce a lot of products based on omeprazole and pantoprazole. These medications may vary in dosage, packaging, and number of capsules in the convolute. But according to the therapeutic effect, they are similar to the Omez drug manufactured by India.
In Russia, you can find cheaper substitutes:
- Opeprazole;
- Gastrozole;
- Ultop;
- Omitox;
- Losek MAPS;
- Gasek;
- Promez;
- Zerocide
- Pantoprazole, and some others.
Russian Omeprazole has the same chemical formula and the amount of active substance in each capsule as Omez. The difference is that in the first substance there are no additives, which significantly reduces the frequency of manifestations of individual intolerance to this drug and almost completely eliminates an allergic reaction. Unfortunately, at the same time, the risk of side effects increases.
The form of release and dosage are the same for these drugs. But the cost of a medicine created in Russia is almost four times lower than that of an imported analogue of Omez.
