Pharmacological properties and use of the drug
Antibiotic Suprax belongs to the group of semi-synthetic cephalosporins of the third generation. It is administered enterally - it enters the body through the mouth. The bactericidal effect of the drug extends to a large number of microorganisms, therefore its action is characterized by a wide spectrum of activity.
The active substance of the drug inhibits the synthesis of the membrane of the microbial cell. It is not affected by enzymes secreted by bacteria, which ensures a high level of effectiveness of the drug.
Suprax helps to cope with a wide range of pathogens:
- Proteus mirabilis and vulgaris;
- staphylococci;
- Klebsiella pneumoniae and oxytoca;
- salmonella;
- Haemophilus parainfluenzae and influenzae;
- gonococci;
- Pasteurella multocida;
- moraxella catarrhalis;
- Streptococcus agalactiae, pneumoniae, pyogenes;
- Shigella
- Providencia spp;
- E. coli;
- Citrobacter amalonaticus and diversus;
- secession marchescens.
These microorganisms cause various diseases: otitis media, sinusitis, acute or chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, infectious diseases of the urinary system and gonorrhea without complications, tonsillitis. The treatment regimen is selected based on the pathology and pathogen. The activity of the drug is associated with food intake: during the meal, the drug is absorbed faster.
Suprax 400 mg is prescribed for adults and children from 12 years of age or more than 50 kg, weighing once a course for 7-10 days. In some cases, the dose is divided into 2 200 mg. With gonorrhea without complications, a single dose of 400 mg of the drug is indicated without further therapy.
A child under 12 years old is given in the form of a suspension. The dosage is calculated on the basis of 8 mg per 1 kg of weight. Sometimes this amount is divided into 2 doses. Instructions for use contain the recommended average amount of Suprax for children from 6 months. up to 1 year, which is 2.5-4 ml per day, from 2 to 4 years - 5 ml, from 5 to 11 years - 6-10 ml. Therapy should be continued for at least 10 days from the start.
To prepare a suspension, the powder in a pack is shaken and poured into a vial. 40 ml of clean cool water are poured there twice, and after each, the contents must be thoroughly mixed. The solution is left for 5 minutes, then it can be used. Before each dose, the medicine should be shaken.
The active substance of Suprax
The active component of the drug is cefixime. It is available in a dosage of 200 and 400 mg in capsule form. Each of them is in an individual cell made of plastic, which are combined in a blister. In total, the package contains 6 capsules, which are sealed in a box of thin cardboard.
For children, the drug is available in the form of granules, from which a suspension is prepared. 5 ml of such a solution contains 100 mg of the active component. To facilitate the treatment, sugar and strawberry flavor are added to the medicine. The powder is poured into a dark glass bottle with a volume of 60 ml. It is inside a thin cardboard package that contains a printed instruction and a dosage spoon.
List of cheap Russian analogues in suspension form
Of the Suprax generics, Amoxiclav is popular as a suspension. It is lower in cost, but not inferior in efficiency. The active substance belongs to the group of penicillin antibiotics and acts against a wide range of pathogens. The drug is approved for use in children, but the dosage may differ from that of Suprax. Therefore, you can replace one remedy with another only after consulting a specialist and a test for sensitivity to antibiotics.
Another popular counterpart is Sumamed. It contains an antibiotic from the macrolide group - azithromycin. Its activity is higher than that of Amoxiclav, therefore it is prescribed more often. The tool can be used in the form of a suspension and is approved for use in children. It is suitable for the treatment of most infectious diseases of the respiratory tract and ENT organs. The dosage of the drug is selected individually, based on the age of the patient, the existing pathology and type of microorganism.
Domestic substitutes in tablets
In the Russian Federation, several Suprax analogues in the form of tablets are produced. The most popular of them is Cefixime. The active substance is fully consistent with that in the original tool, but the additional components and method of production of the drugs are different. Therefore, the effectiveness and dosage may vary. To replace one medicine with another, a specialist consultation is required.
The second most popular are Ceforal Solutab, Cemidexor and Cefix. The active substance in these preparations is the same as that of Suprax. But due to the difference in additional components and the method of drug synthesis, the dosage may not coincide with that of the original product. If you need to replace the drug with a generic, you should consult your doctor about the method of taking and the advisability of using an analog.
Azithromycin has a similar spectrum of action. It belongs to the group of azrolide macrolides. The drug contains a greater number of contraindications than Suprax. The dosage of funds also varies, so the question of replacing one medicine with another cannot be decided by the patient on his own.
Drugs similar in pharmacological properties
Among the preparations closest to Suprax, Panceph can be distinguished. It is produced in the Republic of Macedonia. The medicine is produced in the form of a suspension. The active substance in it is also cefixime. The product is approved for use in children and certified in the Russian Federation.
Ceftriaxone has gained widespread use in hospitals. It also refers to antibiotics of the third generation cephalosporins group. Due to the low cost, the drug is available to all segments of the population. But its use can cause difficulties, since the drug is not released in the form of a suspension. It is prescribed for children in the form of injections, which are very painful. Therefore, if possible, preference is given to Suprax.
Cefosin and Lendacin are also third generation cephalosporins. They can be replaced by Suprax if it is impossible to treat with the original drug. But this should be done with caution, since the side effects and contraindications for them are different. The dosage of the medicine is selected by the doctor based on the patient’s condition, his age and the level of sensitivity of the pathogen to the antibiotic.
Most modern drugs have several analogues. But not all of them are equally effective and are available in convenient dosage form. If there is a need to replace one medicine with another, it is better to consult a specialist to select the correct dosage. Otherwise, therapy may be ineffective, and the patient will be disturbed by side effects.
