Halloween traditional sweets
Halloween traditions in the form in which we know them, originated in the New World. But the traditional sweets of this holiday can be divided into those that appeared even before the settlement of America by Europeans, and those that appeared relatively recently.
The first category includes the Barm brack, or the Bread of All Saints, who migrated to the American Halloween from Ireland.
In addition to traditional treats, this is also a way to play predictions by hiding the symbols of wealth, poverty, future marriage and other things in the form of a coin, thimble, ring when baking in bread.
The dough is sweeter for him than for bread, but less sweet than for cake:
- 1 ½ tbsp. cold milk;
- a third of a pack of fresh yeast;
- ½ tbsp granulated sugar;
- a pair of eggs;
- 75 g of melted butter;
- a glass of light pitted raisins;
- a glass of a mixture of dried apricots, dates or candied fruits;
- 3 g of ground cinnamon;
- ¼ tsp fine salt.
Baking sequence:
- For a third of an hour, leave in a warm place a mixture of milk, sweet sand and yeast. In another bowl, sow flour with cinnamon and small salt. Enriching the taste of baking is easy by adding other ground spices (cardamom, allspice, caramelized zest).
- In the flour with spices, add soft butter, which has become active in milk, yeast, slightly shaken eggs and dried fruits. Thoroughly knead the dough (at least 10 minutes) and leave to ripen for an hour in a warm place.
- Knead the dough and put it in a deep rectangular shape for bread. In it, it should ripen for about half an hour. Next, Bambrek is baked at 180 ºС until ready (about an hour).
The surface of hot bread can be greased with a mixture of a tablespoon of melted butter mixed with teaspoon ground cinnamon and half a teaspoon of cardamom - for greater flavor and softness.
The second delicacy, without which it is difficult to imagine All Saints Day, is apples in caramel.
They are of two types: apples in hard caramel (Candy apples) and apples in soft caramel (Caramel / Toffy apples). This treat appeared much later than the Bread of all Saints in the twentieth century.
To cook apples in soft, viscous caramel for 8 to 10 medium fruits, you will need:
- 350 g of high-quality condensed milk;
- 100 g of fatty oil;
- 200 ml of liquid honey;
- 300 g of sweet sand;
- vanilla extract;
- crushed roasted nuts.
How to cook:
- In a stewpan, which has a thick bottom, combine sugar, honey, sweet milk and butter. With vigorous stirring, boil caramel until the mixture reaches a temperature of 118 degrees. Then turn off the caramel, and after a couple of minutes pour in and quickly stir the aromatic vanilla extract.
- Carefully wash small apples, wipe dry, insert a stick instead of the stem. Cover the surface of the baking sheet with parchment, which is greased liberally with melted butter.
- Next, prepared apples are dipped in caramel, rolled in crushed nut kernels and spread on oiled paper.
In the recipe, honey can be replaced with invert syrup or plain glucose. To make the dessert brighter, instead of nuts, you can use colored coconut flakes or various pastry sprinkles.
Cookies for children
Most of the cookies are desserts that are easy to make; these are the easiest Halloween sweets. Even children will be able to cope with their preparation, they will especially like the creative process of creating funny mummies or pumpkins filled with pumpkin puree.

For mummy cookies you will need:
- 160 g of melted butter;

- a pair of eggs;
- 5 g of baking powder;
- up to 400 g flour;

- Beat eggs with a sweet powder mixer at medium speeds for no more than three minutes. Then add butter, softened to a creamy consistency, and half the flour flour sifted, sifted with baking powder. Again, mix everything into a homogeneous mass.
- Then knead the dough with your hands, gradually adding flour. Once the mass has gathered in a lump, no longer add flour. Knead divided into two parts: 2/3 color the cocoa in a dark color, and 1/3 leave white. Wrap each type of dough with cling film and send for an hour in the cold.
- Divide the chocolate dough into pieces of 60 g each and shape them into rectangular pieces - the bodies of mummies. Roll the white dough into a cake 3 mm thick, which then cut into noodles 0.5 cm wide.
- Then it remains only to “bandage” the mummies with strips of white dough, leaving their faces slightly ajar. They will have to make eyes out of small balls of white and chocolate colors. Mummies are baked for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees.
When forming cookies, you don’t need to wrap the blanks too tightly with white dough, otherwise the “bandages” will break when baking.
Pumpkins in the shape of pumpkins are called the Jack Lantern. For him, you will definitely need a template that can be made of thick paper.

- 120 g of brown sugar;
- 100 ml pumpkin puree;
- 3.5 g of cinnamon;
- a pinch of fine salt;

- Roll it into a layer of 3-5 mm thick.Using a template, cut out pumpkins; cut out the mouth, nose, and eyes at half of the blanks. Bake pumpkins in an oven preheated to 180 ° C (approximately 12-14 minutes).
- Glue the finished cookies in pairs with melted chocolate or thick jam.
Alternatively, you can not cut the muzzle of the cookies, but simply draw them with melted chocolate.

The finished cake can also be decorated in the style of Halloween, for example, by sifting cocoa powder on top through a stencil depicting a witch on a broomstick.
Halloween Cakes
Halloween sweets recipes can be varied, but with all the variety, a terribly tasty cake will become the central delicacy of a theme party. Below are two options for making and decorating cakes in the style of All Saints Day: “Big-eyed Cake” and “Vampire Cake”.
For a cake with "eyes" should prepare:

- For cream, beat sour cream with sugar. Grease the smoother cake with cream and put on it half the slices of banana, prunes and nuts. Break the other crust into pieces, which, dipping into the cream, put on top of the first crust a slide mixed with the rest of the banana slices, nuts and prunes.
- Top the cake first with melted white chocolate and then with dark chocolate. In random order, decorate the formed cake with jelly candies in the form of eyes.
Sponge cake according to the previous recipe, but with a different cream and decor can be turned into a “vampire” cake.
In this case, in addition to the ingredients necessary for baking cakes, you will need:
- 250 g butter;
- 150 - 180 g of powdered sugar:
- 100 ml of milk;
- 100 ml of heavy cream;

- Meanwhile, on the parchment, draw silhouettes of bats, which are then repeated with chocolate. While the mass is still solid, insert skewers into the mice so that they can be transferred to the cake. They can also make eyes of dark and light chocolate or sweets.
- For the "bloody" glaze in hot cream, dissolve the caramel, chopped into smaller pieces. After that, it remains only to pour the cold cake with warm red icing, paste on top of the bats on sticks, and the cake is ready.
Cakes for this cake can be made not chocolate, but red, using food colors or changing the color of raspberry or cherry juice.
Recipes of the most “scary” sweets
Halloween is a holiday with specific attributes, both in interior design and the choice of costumes, and in the decor of dishes. Looking at many of them, it’s hard to understand - are these sweets or nasty things?
Among the most “scary” goodies you can distinguish cookies “Witch's fingers” and dried apples “Witch's head”. The realism of these sweets is sometimes so off-scale that it becomes creepy, although they are prepared in an absolutely simple way.
To make the witch's fingers, you need to prepare for the test:
- 230 g butter;
- 180 g of powdered sugar;
- 1 egg
- 350 g of flour;
- 5 g of baking powder;
- 3 g of salt;
- 5 ml of vanilla extract;
- 100 g of medium-sized (possibly unpeeled) almonds.
Additionally, for a frightening decor you will need: cocoa powder or cinnamon, any red jam and green food coloring.
Baking Method:
- Beat the melted butter with sweet powder, then add the egg and vanilla extract to the composition. After this, it remains only to add dry loose components and knead soft elastic dough, which is removed for 2/3 hours in cool. To get green fingers, you can enter the composition of the dye.
- Divide the chilled dough into pieces of 30 g. Roll a “sausage” from each, give it the shape of a finger, thinning before and after the joints. It remains to make a notch on the bends of the “finger” with a knife and insert the almond nucleolus instead of the nail.
- The formed cookies are baked for 20 minutes at 180 degrees, and then proceed to the decor. By dipping a dry brush in cocoa, the fingers are dirty, and the “cut off” side of the finger is dipped in a jam that simulates blood.
Fingers can be served separately, or with sweet “blood” (cherry, strawberry or other red jam), in which they can be dipped.
In Halloween, you can carve not only pumpkins. For example, an edible scary and realistic witch head comes out of an apple.
In addition to the minimum carving skills, this treat will require:
- apples
- candy floss;
- edible sugar beads.
The sequence of actions:
- To make one head, a medium-sized apple should be peeled off and given an anatomical shape for the head: cut indentations for the eyes, mark and make the nose more embossed, make a cut for the mouth. Trying is not necessary, clumsy work is only welcome.
- Prepared firebrands should be put on a baking sheet and sent to the oven for 5-6 hours to dry at 100 degrees.
- Dried witch heads after cooling need to attach hair from cotton candy and attach eyes - sugar beads in the eye sockets.
When serving sweets to the table, do not forget about the general surroundings, which can appear in napkins with "bloody" prints (they can be made with paints for textiles), candles, cobwebs, bats and more. These little things will enhance the overall impression of the holiday.
