One of the representatives of this family is coho salmon fish - a large individual with bright silver scales. There are few bones in it, and after cutting it can be cooked, fried, baked, salted or steamed.

Coho salmon - what kind of fish is it?

Before moving on to coho salmon recipes, we will learn more about this fish. Coho salmon is a predatory representative of the Salmonid family with a large head and a wide massive tail. Individuals grow up to 95 - 98 cm in length, and their weight can reach 15 kg. Their average life expectancy is 5 years. For the bright silver color of the scales, the Japanese and Americans nicknamed coho salmon “silver salmon”, and in Russia in former times it was called “white fish”.

This individual is found in the northern waters of the Pacific Ocean. Especially large populations live in America, from California to Alaska. Sometimes this fish can be found off the northern coast of Japan. In Russia, it is common in Chukotka, Kamchatka and the Sea of ​​Okhotsk, and sometimes small coho salmon populations are found off the coast of Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, and the Amur.

The average catch of this fish in Russia is small, from 5 to 7 thousand tons per year. This explains the high cost of coho salmon.

The benefits and harms of coho salmon for the body

Coho salmon is considered one of the most useful representatives of the Salmon family.

To cook coho salmon soup, it is enough to take your head, and the rest of the carcass is better used for cooking other dishes.

  • 5 to 6 potatoes;
  • onion;
  • carrot;
  • cream or cream cheese;
  • greenery;
  • salt and seasoning.

Cooking sequence:

  1. Rinse with a fish head, put in a pan with water, add salt, seasonings and cook until tender, removing the foam.
  2. Cook the onions and carrots, peel and chop the potatoes.
  3. Put the potatoes in the broth, bring to a half-preparedness, and then add the frying and cream or cream cheese.
  4. When the potatoes are ready, sprinkle the dish with chopped herbs and simmer on the fire for a few more minutes.

Roasting in the oven allows you to save the beneficial properties of coho salmon and make it deliciously tasty.

  • 3 onions;
  • 2 tomatoes;
  • half a lemon;
  • salt and seasoning.

  1. Grate fish slices with salt and seasonings, pour over lemon juice.
  2. Cut the onion into half rings, and the tomato into slices.

  • lemon;
  • suitable seasonings;
  • salt and black pepper.

  1. Cut the carcass into pieces, sprinkle with salt, pepper and seasonings.
  2. Pour water into the multicooker bowl and install a special grill.

Pan-fried coho salmon

To fry coho salmon in a pan, you do not need a lot of spices. Batter to such a fish is also not required.

  • lemon;
  • flour;
  • suitable seasonings;
  • salt.

Order of preparation:

  1. Wash the carcass, cut along the ridge and divide into pieces.
  2. Sprinkle fish with salt and seasonings, pour over lemon juice.
  3. Roll pieces in flour and fry in vegetable fat.

On a note. You can cook coho salmon “with smoke” on the grill, and to make it tender and juicy, in the process of frying it will need to be poured with wine or beer.

Unusual fish cake

Coho salmon recipes are quite diverse, but it can be prepared not only as an independent dish.With the filling of this fish, you can make an amazing pancake cake and decorate it to your own taste.

For cooking you will need:

  • 2 eggs;
  • 500 ml of milk;
  • 200 g of flour;
  • 45 - 50 ml of vegetable oil;
  • salt;
  • a can of canned coho salmon or 400 g fillet;
  • hard cheese;
  • sour cream;
  • some mustard;
  • lemon;
  • olives;
  • dill.

Procedure:

  1. Beat eggs with salt, add vegetable oil and mix.
  2. Pour the flour gradually, spreading the mass in small portions of milk. When all the lumps disappear, pour out the remaining milk, mix and fry the pancakes.
  3. Knead the canned fish with a fork, and if fillet is used, boil and pass it through a meat grinder.
  4. Pour the lemon over the fish, mix with sour cream, mustard and chopped dill. Grind the cheese.
  5. Grease each pancake with filling, sprinkle with grated cheese and laying them one on top of the other.
  6. Garnish the pancake cake with olives and sprigs of dill.

Before serving, the dish should be infused in a cool place for at least an hour, so that the pancakes are well soaked.

How to pickle coho salmon fish

Filling coho salmon is better in a glass dish, since it is not recommended to keep food in plastic for a long time.

For work you will need:

  • fish carcass;
  • salt;
  • peppercorns;
  • mustard seeds;
  • paprika;
  • seasonings for fish;
  • a pinch of sugar;
  • olive oil.

Sequencing:

  1. Wash the fish and cut into portions.
  2. Pour spices into a deep plate and mix thoroughly.
  3. Place half of the seasoning mixture on the bottom of the glassware, lay the fish on top and sprinkle with the rest of the spices.
  4. Sprinkle coho salmon with olive oil, cover the dishes with cling film and put in the cold. After 24 hours, you can try the dish.

Attention! The consumption of large quantities of fish that have not undergone heat treatment can lead to infection by worms, so eating salted coho salmon is allowed only a little.
