Impaired lipoprotein balance and increased levels of "bad" cholesterol in the blood are associated with a risk of developing atherosclerosis and heart pathologies. To maintain health, you must first change your lifestyle and revise your nutrition system. But when such measures do not bring results, you have to resort to drug therapy. Rosart is one of the drugs of choice for treating lipoprotein metabolism disorders. It has been experimentally proved that by leveling the level of cholesterol in the blood, it is able to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

The composition of the drug

The effect of the drug is due to the substance rosuvastatin. In addition to which, the composition of the drug includes chemically modified dietary fiber, calcium and magnesium salts, lactose in the form of monohydrate and crospovidone.

The dosage form of the drug is represented by tablets coated with a synthetic smooth shell. The film coating contains polyethylene glycol, glycerol ether, titanium dioxide, milk sugar monohydrate and a coloring agent.

This drug has several dosages. The smallest of them is 5 mg, represented by rounded white tablets. Pills of other forms of release - 10, 20 and 40 milligrams - are painted in pink. Rosart 10 mg and Rosart 20 mg tablets are rounded. The medicine with a dosage of 40 milligrams is available in the form of oblong oval pills.Each tablet is labeled with the letters ST and numbers from 1 to 4.

Tablets of all kinds are packaged in opaque plastic foil blisters. Blisters and instructions for use are additionally embedded in cardboard packs. The shelf life of the package should not exceed three years.

Pharmacological properties and pharmacokinetics

The effectiveness of the drug is based on the ability of rosuvastatin to lower the level of low and very low density cholesterol lipoproteins, the critical value of which increases the risk of developing cardio and vascular diseases.

Cholesterol determines the course of many physiological processes. It provides stability to the structure of cell walls. It participates in the formation of vitamin D and steroid hormones produced by the adrenal glands, protects blood cells from the effects of toxins and promotes the production of bile acids.

Since cholesterol itself is insoluble in water, it is present in the blood in the form of lipids, which, together with carrier proteins, form lipoprotein complexes of various densities.

In a healthy body, high density lipoproteins (HDL) should prevail, which are easily processed by the liver and removed from the body. Lipoproteins of low (LDL) and very low density (VLDL) are able to precipitate, adhere to the walls of blood vessels and form atherosclerotic plaques. That is why their overabundance is undesirable.

The level of LDL and VLDL is adjusted primarily by the rejection of bad habits and a diet low in animal fats. If these measures do not help, the patient is prescribed statins - drugs that affect the course of metabolism.

Rosuvastatin is one of these agents. It is a direct competitor to the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which promotes the synthesis of mevalonic acid, a key component in the cholesterol formation chain. Thus, by inhibiting the activity of this enzyme, rosuvastatin reduces the production of cholesterol itself.

The substance shifts the balance towards high density lipoproteins, increasing the number of receptors that capture LDL on the surface of liver cells and inhibit the synthesis of VLDL. As a result of treatment, the vessels are freed from cholesterol plaques, and the risk of developing atherosclerosis and related diseases is reduced.

The drug is very poorly absorbed. Of the entire dose taken, no more than 20% enters the bloodstream. After five hours, the medicine will reach its maximum concentration, but the first results of treatment can be noticed no earlier than a week later. In the second week, the effectiveness of therapy will approach its peak. Then she will continue to stay at the same level until the end of treatment.

All processes of transformation of the active substance occur in the liver. The same organ is also responsible for the elimination of both the compound itself and its metabolites.

In the course of clinical studies, it was found that the pharmacokinetics of the lipid-lowering drug depends not only on the condition of the liver, but also on the race of the patient. In patients of the Mongoloid race, the half-life of the substance can increase from one and a half to two times.

What are Rosart tablets prescribed for?

The drug is prescribed to normalize blood cholesterol and reduce the risk of developing diseases, the prerequisite for which is an increased concentration of LDL.

The states in which the assignments are made:

  • hereditary or mixed hypercholesterolemia;
  • hypertriglyceridemia;
  • progressive atherosclerosis.

Drug therapy can be both an independent tool and an additional measure to the prescribed diet. But more often, first of all, they revise nutrition, and then medications are already connected.

In the case when the source of hypercholesterolemia is a genetic predisposition, statins can be prescribed without waiting for the results from nutritional correction.

Rosart is indicated as a preventative measure to prevent cardiovascular disease in the presence of predisposing factors:

  • over 60 for women and 50 for men;
  • high blood pressure;
  • low HDL cholesterol;
  • elevated levels of C-reactive protein;
  • the presence of bad habits;
  • genetic predisposition.

Rosart from cholesterol is used for prevention even in the absence of symptoms of a pathological condition.

Instructions for use and dosage

At the beginning of treatment, the lowest dose (5 or 10 mg) is always prescribed. She is chosen by assessing the general condition of the patient. Comparing the results of laboratory tests with the norms and determining the degree of risk of developing atherosclerosis, as well as diseases associated with it.

If a patient has previously been treated with any statins and is switching from one medicine to another, he will still be given the smallest dose.

The tablet does not need to be chewed or crushed. It is taken once a day, at any time and regardless of food. The medicine is washed down with water.

After four weeks, evaluate the first results of therapy. If the dose is not effective, increase it. 20 mg can only be prescribed if there is a serious risk of developing coronary disease, heart attack or stroke.

40 milligrams is the maximum daily dose. Given the likelihood of side effects, it is prescribed only in severe forms of hypercholesterolemia and only after previous treatment has failed.

Since the drug is more difficult to administer when the liver and kidney functions are inconsistent, when using high doses, there is a possibility of exceeding the permissible concentration of the active substance in the blood. Patients with pathology of the liver or kidneys are not prescribed a lipid-lowering drug in a dosage of 40 mg.

Given that genetic characteristics affect the pharmacokinetics of the substance, representatives of the Mongoloid race are also not prescribed the highest dosage.

During pregnancy and lactation

Women of childbearing age when using Rosart should use reliable methods of contraception. In case of pregnancy on the background of taking the drug, therapy should be urgently stopped. The doctor should inform the patient about possible violations during gestation and development of the fetus.

Since rosuvastatin inhibits the synthesis of cholesterol, which is necessary for the production of hormones that ensure the normal course of pregnancy, the risk of therapy during this condition is obvious. Regarding breastfeeding, there are no confirmed data. It is not known whether the substance can pass into the mother’s milk. However, during the treatment period, feeding should be stopped.

Drug interaction

Rosart tablets are incompatible with many drugs, so before prescribing you need to make sure that the patient does not take any competing drugs.

The following is a list of such drugs and a description of the consequences of their joint administration with a lipid-lowering agent:

  • drugs that reduce the activity of thrombin - the risk of bleeding;
  • histamine receptor blockers and diuretics - a decrease in adrenal cortex activity and a lack of steroid hormones;
  • drugs that artificially depress immunity, antifungal agents, nicotinic acid, HIV protease inhibitors - increased concentrations of CPK (creatine phosphokinase) and myoglobin, destruction of muscle tissue, renal failure;
  • heart rate normalizing drugs - increasing the concentration of heart medications.

The combination of the drug with alcohol can lead to toxic liver damage. You should not take several types of statins at the same time, because in this case their concentration in the blood will exceed the recommended values, as a result of which the risk of adverse reactions will increase.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

The drug can be prescribed only to persons over 18 years of age. Pregnant and lactating, as well as women who do not use reliable contraceptives, it is contraindicated.

The medicine will do more harm than good for patients with sensitivity to lactose, patients with an acute stage of liver disease, those who have impaired synthesis of thyroid-stimulating hormones, as well as people with elevated levels of CPK in the blood and signs of myopathy.

The drug is not recommended for renal failure. Rosart is also contraindicated in those who are forced to take fibrates and cyclosporine.

Since the active substance affects metabolism, its effect can spread far beyond the correction of cholesterol levels. As a result of taking, such side effects as deterioration of general well-being, sleep disturbances, headaches, digestive disorders, muscle pain, decreased sexual desire, reproductive disorders, temporary renal pathologies, the appearance of protein in the urine, changes in the blood picture, muscle rupture, and tendons, diabetes.

It should be remembered that the drug does not have a specific antidote, and with an overdose, only symptomatic treatment can help. Too high doses cause a jump in the level of CPK, which is fraught with destruction of muscle tissue cells.

Hypolipidemic drug analogue

Based on the active substance, rosuvastatin produces a whole group of drugs:

  • "Akorta";
  • "Crestor";
  • Mertenil;
  • "Reddistatin";
  • "Ro-statin";
  • "Rosistark";
  • "Rosucard";
  • "Rosulip";
  • "Rustor";
  • Suvardio
  • Tevastor.

All Rosart analogues are made in the form of oral forms - capsules or tablets.

What is better rosucard or rosart

Preparations based on the same active substance can be perceived differently by the body. Many factors influence the reaction: how the substance was obtained, what spatial structure it has, degree of purification, etc. It is also important what auxiliary compounds are included in the drug.

For example, an analogue of Rosart Rosucard is more expensive, does this mean that it is better? The composition of these drugs are very similar, but reviews say that Rosucard is easier to tolerate. It is less likely to cause adverse reactions. But to make a choice, you need to consult a specialist.

The action of statins is aimed at lowering cholesterol. They can prevent serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, cardiac ischemia, atherosclerosis. However, information about adverse reactions and negative effects on many organs and systems cannot be neglected. Such funds should be prescribed only for strict indications.
