Propolis or bee glue is used by people from ancient times. In ancient Egypt, it was used as a preservative for embalming. In ancient Greece, propolis was used externally for the manufacture of therapeutic plasters for bruises and tumors, and was also fumigated with eczema and a debilitating cough.
In the "Natural History" who lived in the 1st century AD Pliny the Elder is mentioned that the Greeks used propolis to remove poisons from the body, to cure chronic ulcers and sprains.
Today, researchers in various fields of natural and technical sciences study the properties of propolis, determine the composition and activity of components in various solvents. In medicine, propolis alcohol extract is most often used. Scientists conduct numerous clinical studies of propolis in alcohol - which helps extract.

Propolis for alcohol - useful and healing properties
Propolis is used in medicine, cosmetology, technology and other fields. In ancient Greece, the most expensive perfumes were made from it. Priceless string instruments created by Stradivarius are varnished with propolis. Bee balm is used in the production of plastics and heterocontacts for photo detectors. In pharmacology, tablets, sprays, drops, ointments, plasters and other forms are made on its basis.
The use of new research methods, in particular gas chromatography and mass spectrometry in the composition of propolis revealed more than 180 components.
According to biochemical properties, these components are combined into 4 main groups:
- resins;
- tannins;
- essential oils;
- wax.
An aqueous solution of propolis exhibits a more pronounced bactericidal activity than tincture of propolis in alcohol, especially by 70%. Water (hydrophilic) propolis preparations are widely used in ophthalmology and otolaryngology.
Some substances of bee balm can be distinguished only when it is extracted with alcohol or ether. For example, resins are determined in alcohol tincture and are absent in water.
129 bioactive substances were detected by chromatography and mass spectrometry in an alcohol tincture of propolis (70% alcohol):

In addition, propolis contains aerostimulators characteristic of all beekeeping products: nerol, acetoin, farnesol, nonacosan, linalool, eugenol, anise aldehyde, and pinene.
Such a unique composition determined the bacteriostatic and antibacterial action of propolis against more than 100 strains of bacteria, pathogenic fungi, and viruses.
Propolis contains natural antibiotics and kills such highly pathogenic, and even resistant to synthetic drugs, microorganisms, such as:
- Koch's wand (tuberculosis);
- pale treponema (syphilis);
- diphtheria bacillus (diphtheria);
- influenza viruses;
- salmonella (salmonellosis, typhoid).
Scientists have confirmed that bee glue exhibits antitumor and anti-inflammatory activity. It helps to accelerate the epithelization and tissue regeneration.

Bee balm is used in the treatment of malignant diseases, to increase immunity. Since bees balm contains phenolic compounds, it was found that the substance has antioxidant properties - inhibits the aging process, prevents the growth of malignant neoplasms and their metastasis. Only 5-10 g of propolis per 1 dose blocks the growth of cancerous tumors.
Propolis drugs have an analgesic effect. Its analgesic effect is used for osteochondrosis of the spine, toothache, wounds and in the postoperative period.
How to make propolis tincture at home?
The solubility of bee balm in ethanol depends on the heating temperature and is 50-75%, and in water - 6-10%.
To prepare the alcoholic extract take:
- propolis - 40 g;
- alcohol (70%) - 200 ml.
Raw propolis is kept in the freezer for 2-3 hours. Frozen raw materials are ground using a grater and placed in a dark glass container, add alcohol and incubated for 2 weeks at a temperature of 20-25 ° C, shaking the container regularly.If the infusion is urgently needed, then the container is placed in a water bath, heated to 40 ° C. Remove from heat and shake container every 20-25 minutes for 2 hours. The finished tincture is filtered through several layers of gauze.
The resulting alcoholic extract can be stored without access to light and air (in a tightly sealed container) for about 3 years. But the most effective tool in the first year of storage.
No less useful tincture of bee balm on ethyl alcohol and ether.
It is prepared like this:
- propolis - 50 g;
- alcohol (70%) - 60 ml;
- ether - 20 ml.
An infusion is prepared in the same way as alcohol.
For the treatment of certain diseases, a less “strong” tincture is required. It is prepared by diluting the alcoholic extract with water, or instead of 70% alcohol they take vodka (40%). Instead of 100 ml of alcohol, 200 ml of vodka is added.
What propolis helps with alcohol - instructions for use
Propolis preparations are used in the treatment of diseases:
- ENT (otitis media, tonsillitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, sinusitis, laryngitis);
- dental (periodontal disease, stomatitis, gingivitis, cheilitis);
- respiratory tract (ARI, SARS, influenza A, tuberculosis);
- Gastrointestinal tract (pancreatitis, hepatitis, cholecystitis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, gastritis);
- CVS (hypertension, varicose veins, thrombosis, vasospasm, atherosclerosis, anemia);
- reproductive system (chronic diseases of the prostate gland, cervical erosion, sexually transmitted diseases);
- dermatological (herpes simplex, acne, acne, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea, warts, corns);
- ophthalmic (keratitis, conjunctivitis, cataracts, glaucoma);
- thermal, chemical, radiation injuries of the epidermis, hematomas, difficult to heal ulcers.
Propolis is used both in monotherapy and in conjunction with antibiotics and antiviral drugs. Bee balm enhances their effectiveness and prevents the occurrence of side effects. Propolis helps the body quickly get out of infectious stress, and promotes detoxification. Bee glue is 5-10 times more effective than novocaine - it has a local and general analgesic effect.
Propolis promotes the regeneration of the heart muscle in a heart attack and stroke without the formation of a rough scar. This effect is confirmed by ECG data. The dosage and course of treatment with propolis tincture for alcohol depends on the pathology.
Before taking tincture, it is necessary to conduct a test on the individual tolerance of beekeeping products. An adult can drink ½ dose of tincture and if there is no allergic reaction, then bring the volume to the recommended values. For children, a few drops of tincture are applied to the inside of the forearm and are observed for 2-3 hours.
To boost immunity
In order to raise immunity, alcohol propolis tincture is drunk depending on the age of the patient. Children are given extract starting at 3 years old. The dose is calculated as follows - 1 drop for 1 year of life three times a day. From the age of 14, you can give an adult dose of tincture –25 drops. The course is 10 days. There should be 2 courses per year.
Tincture can be added to any inactive liquid (milk, water), season the solution with 1 tsp. honey.
Treatment of alcohol with propolis alcohol
Propolis preparations are used to treat pathologies of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. Studies have shown that the most effective is 20% alcohol tincture.
It is necessary to start a course of therapy with a less concentrated extract (5-10%), since a higher concentration can cause increased pain. If the drug is well tolerated, the concentration of tincture is adjusted to 20-30%. For the treatment of 40-60 drops of the drug drip on ¼ Art. warm liquid. Take the solution three times a day 90 minutes before eating. The course of treatment is 1-2 months. During therapy, you must follow a diet.
With severe pain in the stomach, tincture is mixed with novocaine - for 40-60 drops of tincture, you need to take 50 ml of 0.5% novocaine. Anesthetic warm up a little. Drink the mixture in the same way as tincture.As a rule, after 4 weeks, the ulcer is healed. Only in 15-18% of cases a second course is required.
A similar treatment is indicated for chronic gastrointestinal pathologies:
- gastritis with high acidity;
- gastroduodenitis;
- stab;
- erosive gastritis.
Propolis oil is not recommended for liver diseases.
For colds
For the treatment of colds, tincture of propolis is used for:
- gargling - 10% alcohol tincture of 20-30 drops per 100 ml of hot water. Rinse 4-5 times a day 30 minutes after eating;
- inhalations - add 2 ml of alcoholic extract and 2 ml of hot water to the inhaler. Breathe through the nose and mouth 3-5 times a day for 1-5 minutes. The course is 5-20 procedures;
- orally - 20-30 drops of 30% tincture per 1 tbsp. l boiled water 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 15 days.
A similar treatment is used for chronic bronchitis, tracheitis, rhinitis, bronchial asthma. The combination with medications and physiotherapy increases the effectiveness of treatment.
In the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections in children of the first year of life, propolis water infusion is used. Children instill 1-2 drops of the solution into each nostril 3-4 times a day in the nose. The course of treatment is about 5 days.
Cardiovascular Recovery
The use of propolis tincture in the treatment of CCC pathologies is known from medical treatises of Byzantium. The Bulgarian scientist S. Nikolov (75, XX century) recommended treating hypertension with 30% alcohol tincture of bee glue. Yugoslav researcher I. Dejanov treated infusion with venous thrombosis of the lower extremities.
Propolis alcohol tincture is not a panacea for severe CCC lesions, such as:
- Ischemic heart disease;
- myocarditis;
- myocardial infarction;
- strokes
- aortic aneurysm;
- rheumatism of the heart.
Drugs should be used and only after stabilization should the tincture be used as a supportive treatment.
Treatment of diabetes with propolis alcohol
For the treatment of diabetes mellitus according to the old folk recipe, 30% tincture of bee balm for alcohol is used. Take 1 tbsp. 6 times a day. The minimum course of treatment is 30 days. The drug is taken against the background of traditional treatment - antipyretic and antidiabetic drugs. Blood glucose control and dose adjustment are necessary.
Solving Vision Problems
Propolis alcohol infusion is not used for the treatment of ophthalmic pathologies. In the treatment of eye diseases, an aqueous or oily solution is used. An aqueous solution (1 part of an aqueous infusion is diluted with 5 parts of distilled water) or an oil solution (1 part of propolis oil is diluted with 20 parts of purified water), 1-2 drops are administered to each eye 6 times a day. The duration of treatment depends on the disease.
The pharmaceutical industry produces propolis-based finished products for the treatment of eye diseases:
- Propamix - eye drops;
- Ophthalmic medicinal films;
- Propamophthalmix - eye ointment;
- IPVI - propolis water extract for the eyes (5%).
The instruction for water extract of bee glue (5%) recommends using it for:
Indications | Number of drops | Openness (per day) | Course duration |
---|---|---|---|
Decreased visual acuity | 2 | 3-4 | 1.5-2 months |
Optic atrophy | 1 | 3 | 10 days break between courses 5 days |
Increased eye pressure, conjunctivitis | 2 | 2-3 | Before cure |
Cataracts, astigmatism, keratitis, retinal dystrophy, burns and injuries of the cornea | According to the scheme: | ||
2 | 2 | 3 days | |
2 | 3 | 3 days | |
2 | 4 | 3 days | |
2 | 6 | 30-40 days |
If necessary, repeat the course, taking a break of 30 days.
Improving the condition of hair with propolis alcohol
Propolis has been used since ancient times to treat baldness and strengthen hair. To do this, an ointment with a native substance was used, vegetable oils were enriched with alcohol tincture. In the treatment of oily seborrhea, the hair roots are moistened with a brush with an aqueous solution of bee balm. It is added to hair masks.
To reduce oily hair, the roots are wiped overnight with a cotton pad dipped in 40% alcohol tincture of propolis. The procedure is carried out daily for 30-40 days.
For the treatment of damaged by coloring or perming hair and strengthening any type of hair, 40% alcohol tincture is diluted with warm water - 2 tsp. funds for ½ liter of water. After washing, the hair is moistened with a solution. Do not flush. To speed up the recovery process, you can wet the hair with a solution daily.
To prevent hair loss, 40% tincture is enriched with burdock oil (1 tsp tincture for 2 tsp oil). Heat the mixture in a water bath and apply to the hair roots. With light massage movements, distribute the product and hold for 10-15 minutes. Rinse hair well. Repeat the procedure every other day.
The healing properties of propolis are manifested in compliance with the dosage and duration of treatment.
Contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of propolis alcohol tincture is individual intolerance to beekeeping products and a tendency to allergic reactions.
Alcohol tincture is not recommended for use:
- children under 3 years old;
- pregnant and lactating women.
Alcohol tincture is orally used in diluted form. Since propolis contains bioactive substances, you should consult your doctor before using alcohol tincture.
