Forms of release, composition and active substance
The main active compound of this drug is dimethyl sulfoxide of synthetic origin. Such substances have fibrinolytic properties, due to which the therapeutic effect of other medications increases.
Dimexide is manufactured by pharmaceutical companies in several forms:
- 100% solution;
- ointment;
- gel for external use 25%.
The drug in the form of a solution has no other components and is available in 50 and 100 ml. The gel medication further comprises nipagin, nipazole, water and sodium carmellose. The volume of this form is 30 g.
Indications for the appointment of Detralex
External use of ointment or local use of Dimexidum in the form of a solution is advisable for inflammatory processes, as well as for the treatment of the following indications for use:
- Thrombophlebitis.
- Joint bag inflammation.
- Intervertebral hernia.
- Relief of pain discomfort in arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, arthropathy, radiculitis, neuralgia.
- Combined therapy for bruises, traumatic infiltrates, damaged ligaments.
- Erythema nodosum.
- Acne, eczema, erysipelas, scleroderma.
- Autoimmune joint inflammation.
- Inflammatory disease of bone structures and soft tissues.
According to the instructions for use, this drug can be used in cases of burns and purulent wounds. However, before using it is recommended to discuss the use of the medicine with your doctor. In some cases, Dimexide is used in dentistry, as well as in the postoperative period.
The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to its ability to enhance the penetration of other anti-inflammatory ointments through the skin. Instructions for use and dosage
All forms of the drug are prescribed for exclusively external use. It is necessary to dilute Dimexide in the form of a solution with purified water to the optimum concentration of the main compound - 40%. The resulting liquid is applied to the skin with a tampon, compress or irrigation from a syringe. To prepare, you should soak the tissue, place on the affected area and cover with plastic wrap.
The concentration of the substance and the amount of use depends on the patient's history:
- with trophic ulcers, 30% is shown two or three times a day;
- in the case of boils, a 40% Dimexide solution for compress is prescribed;
- scleroderma is treated with compresses with a 50% solution;
- for analgesic effects in case of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, 20% of the concentrate is shown three times a day;
- thrombophlebitis is treated with a 50% solution for 15 days;
- in the case of deep burns, dressings with 20% are prescribed.
For each violation, a different duration of applying compresses and dressings, however, the maximum amount of time is up to 30 minutes. Dimexidum gel should be applied in a small layer to the affected area of the skin or soft tissues twice a day. The duration of therapeutic treatment can be up to 2 weeks. Repeated therapy is allowed to be carried out after ten days.
During pregnancy and lactation
The use of Dimexide during gestation, as well as breastfeeding, is contraindicated. This limitation is due to the fact that the main compound of the drug is able to cross the placental barrier and excreted in breast milk. This can affect the development of the fetus or lead to complications in the child. During therapeutic treatment, breast-feeding should be discontinued.
Drug interaction
The medication is allowed to be combined with heparin and other antibacterial therapeutic agents. And also the main component of the drug enhances the sensitivity of microorganisms to aminoglycoside antibiotics, rifampicin.
Contraindications, side effects and overdose

There were no cases of overdose with a solution or gel. An overdose or improper dilution of the composition can lead to a chemical burn in open mucous areas or skin. With manifestations of an allergic reaction, the victim should take antihistamines.
