There are drugs for which trust is not able to weaken either time or competition in the pharmacological market. These include the Levomekol ointment, the analogues of which are quite successfully sold from the pharmacy counters. But are they effective?
Material Content:
Composition, active substance and description of the release form
In the distant seventies, the Kharkov Pharmaceutical Institute has developed a unique drug with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and regenerative properties. This was Levomekol, which has not lost its popularity today in the treatment of various diseases and skin lesions.
The minimum composition of the ointment is unique today: how many drugs can boast a pronounced therapeutic effect with a minimum of components? And in Levomekol there are only two active substances:
- dioxomethyltetrahydropyrimidine (or otherwise - methyluracil) at a concentration of 40 mg / g, showing regenerative effectiveness and improving trophic tissue;
- Chloramphenicol, also known as chloramphenicol, at a concentration of 7.5 mg / g, is an antibiotic with a wide spectrum of action against microorganisms in the list of viruses and their strains.
In addition to the regenerating property, methyluracil is active against the hematopoiesis system: it stimulates and accelerates the reproduction of blood cells. In chloramphenicol, a feature was revealed not only to penetrate deep into the tissues, but also to actively affect microorganisms even in the presence of purulent and necrotic masses in the wounds.The affected areas treated with Levomekol undergo a kind of preservation, and the inflammation not only does not progress for a long time (more than a day), but it is also suppressed. This allows you to use Levomekol ointment in surgery, and in dermatology, and in combostalogy, and in proctology, and in cosmetology.
Russian analogues of ointment Levomekol
Are there cheap analogues of Levomekol domestic production? Yes, and they can be divided into two main groups:
- analogues with identical active ingredients;
- drugs with a similar therapeutic mechanism, but with a different composition.
Completely identical structural Russian analogues of Levomekol are Levomethyl and Netran. These ointments contain chloramphenicol and methyluracil in the same concentrations. The composition of Levosin ointment is somewhat wider: methyluracil, chloramphenicol, sulfadimethoxine, trimecain - in the complex, these components have an antibacterial effect, contribute to the rapid tissue regeneration.
The following drugs are most similar in pharmacological action:
- Aekol - solution for external and internal use, with alpha-tocopherol acetate, betacarotene, menadione and retinol in the composition;
- Aloe liniment, which includes aloe plant juice and vegetable oils: castor and eucalyptus;
- Vishnevsky's liniment, the composition of which includes xeroform and birch tar;
- Hyoxysone is an ointment with hydrocortisone and oxytetracycline in the composition. However, it is important to consider that the first component is hormonal, and this is not suitable for any clinical case;
- cream or ointment D-panthenol, Pantoderm or Dexpanthenol, in which the active ingredient is the substance dexpanthenol;
- Olazol - topical aerosol with sea buckthorn oil, chloramphenicol, benzocaine and boric acid;
- Ichthyol ointment, which includes the active substance ammonium bituminosulfonate;
- Streptocide ointment, which includes streptocide, is an antibiotic of a number of sulfonamides.
Levomekol, unlike some of the presented analogues, has an undeniable advantage: it is not hydrophobic, it is able to exert a therapeutic effect in the presence of fluids in the wound - blood, pus, lymph. Therefore, the selection of an analogue is individual in nature, and it is best to trust a specialist in this matter!
Imported Drug Substitutes
In addition to domestic, there are foreign analogues of Levomekol ointment. Many substitutes are not inferior, but in some ways even superior to the drug. The following ointments for external use exhibit antiseptic, antimicrobial and regenerative properties:
- Actovegin - a drug (other forms - cream, solution, tablets) from Austria with a hemoderivative (calf blood extract);
- Baneocin (also in powder form) is an Austrian product, the active components of which are neomycin and bacitrocin;
- Bepanten is an ointment made in Switzerland, which consists of dexpanthenol, but several times more expensive than the domestic analogue;
- Bacitracin (USA) - a substance containing zinc-bacitracin and form-forming components;
- Povidone iodine - a solution or ointment with the same active substance for external use;
- Solcoseryl - a medicine produced in Germany and Switzerland, has unique regenerative and antibacterial properties due to the hemoderivative.
The main purpose of these drugs is to accelerate wound healing, disinfecting and antimicrobial effects in a variety of skin diseases.
The cost of foreign analogues is significantly higher than Levomekol, and this fact largely determines the choice of consumers in favor of Russian-made ointments.
Instructions for use of the drug
With open wounds, boils, burns, a small amount of ointment should be applied to a gauze napkin and applied, fixed with a bandage, to the affected area. Deep purulent wounds are filled with ointment through a catheter using a syringe.Dressing is carried out daily until the wound is cleansed of purulent masses.
It is not recommended to use Levomekol for more than 7 days continuously, as this can lead to contact sensitization - increased sensitivity to the components of the ointment.
Levomekol according to the instructions is not indicated for use by children under the age of three, however, during pregnancy and lactation, external use of the ointment is safe. Levomekol contains levomecithin, which gives the right to attribute the ointment to antibiotic drugs. This should be taken into account with individual intolerance to antibiotics of this series! In addition, contraindications for use are: the presence of psoriasis, eczema, mycoses.
Is there a difference in means with a single active substance
Using Levomekol, it is possible not only to relieve inflammation, but also to accelerate wound healing, since the components of the ointment contribute to better trophism of tissues, their regeneration. There is no fundamental difference in which drug with chloramphenicol and methyluracil to use, especially if the components are contained in the same concentrations. However, giving preference to analogues of Levomekol, it is worth studying the information about the composition. So, for example, often prescribed as identical to Levomekol, Levosin also contains trimecaine, which has an analgesic effect, as an active component. Olazol, in addition to chloramphenicol, also includes an anesthetic substance and sea buckthorn oil, which contributes to an even faster epithelization compared to Levomekol. Before using the medication or its analogues, it is recommended to consult a specialist.
