Description
Ginnala's maple under its name combines low trees and large shrubs. The height of the maple can vary from 3 to 8 m. The spreading crown in the form of a tent is formed by graceful branches of brown color with a smooth bark, which slightly crackes with age. Three-lobed leaves. After the leaf buds open, flowering of the Ginnal maple is observed, the duration of which can be 3 weeks. Cream flowers are collected in racemose inflorescences. Over time, red-impeller fruits are formed on the maple. The superficial root system is well branched.
Common types and varieties
Ginnala maple, aka river maple, has several common forms, which are very appreciated by gardeners and landscapers for their beauty and grace, which allows you to create various landscape compositions:
- “Flame” is a variety distinguished by the fiery color of leaves, which is observed in the autumn period.
- "Umbrella" - a distinctive characteristic of the form is an umbrella-shaped crown.
- "Maxim" - the form is represented by dense shrubs with a spherical crown, which in diameter can reach 5 m.
Outdoor landing
To achieve the greatest decorativeness of the Acer ginnala maple, you should choose sunny areas for planting, where its foliage will acquire contrasting colors of yellow and scarlet with the advent of autumn.
The plant will develop normally even with slight shading, but decorativeness will be lower.
Although maple is undemanding to the soil composition, it still has certain preferences. To grow a tree or shrub stands on loose, light soils with a slightly acid reaction. If the hydrogen index is 4.5 - 5.5, then soil should be acidified using horse peat or special fertilizers.
Ginnal maple is planted in spring or autumn, which depends on the agro-climatic conditions of the cultivation region. In the northern regions, it is preferable to plant a plant in the spring, so that it has enough time for rooting.
Landing operations are carried out in the following order:
- 2 weeks before the main work, a landing pit is excavated with a depth and diameter of 50 cm or with the same parameters of a trench for a hedge, where organic fertilizers (compost, humus) are placed.
- After the specified time, with a close occurrence of groundwater, the bottom of the recess is laid out with drainage material - crushed stone or broken brick.
- Next, a little soil mixture is poured from the extracted earth, peat and sand, on which the seedling is established.
- When forming a "green" fence between the seedlings, a distance of 1 - 2 m is maintained.
- The pit (trench) is filled with the prepared substrate in such a way that the root neck is at the same level with the ground.
- The area around the trunk is crushed, watered and mulched.
How to care for river maple
The species is not pretentious to care. If you comply with the basic agricultural requirements for growing, then the colorful maple of Ginnal will become the highlight of the landscape composition.
- Watering. Watering the maple is often not necessary. It is enough to pour 2 buckets of water each month into the trunk circle. The flow rate increases only with prolonged drought.
- Fertilizing and fertilizing. In the first year after planting, the Ginnal maple is fed only if the fertile soil layer was not enriched before planting. For spring and summer top dressing, complex mineral fertilizers are used. Under the autumn digging, you can make organic matter - compost or humus.
- Soil treatment. Loosening after rainfall or watering is not carried out deeply due to the surface root system of the plant, in order to avoid injury. If weed vegetation has appeared, then it should be removed immediately. When mulching, the frequency of soil treatment procedures is significantly reduced.
- Pruning. It is necessary to form a crown in the spring before the swelling of the kidneys. At the same time, sick, dried branches are cut off. If the maple is used to form a hedge, then cutting is carried out as the shoots regrow.
- Shelter for the winter. Shelter from frost requires young specimens. For protective purposes, mulch and fir spruce branches are used.
Breeding methods
Since the seed method of reproduction is very long, at home for the cultivation of Ginnal maple, cuttings are used.
Cuttings 20 cm long, cut and dug in the open ground, are left for the winter in the garden under cover of spruce spruce branches. With the advent of spring, young plants are transplanted for growing. Three and four year old seedlings are planted in a permanent place.
Possible growing problems
Maple is valued for its good immunity and easy cultivation. However, sometimes gardeners encounter damage to a tree or shrub with coral spotting and powdery mildew, which degrade the decorative qualities of the culture.
- With signs of spotting, affected shoots are removed in a timely manner, and sections are treated with an antiseptic.
- Fungicides are effective against powdery mildew.
- Pests such as whiteflies, weevils and mealybugs can also be a problem, the solution of which will come in handy an insecticide.
Use in landscape design
Ginnala maple, being a very ornamental plant, is often used:
- in solitary landings on the background of a lawn with lush green grass;
- for the formation of live fences;
- when making alleys or shady areas of the garden, park.
With proper planting and proper care, the Ginnal maple will complement the colors of the autumn garden with its own color and create a harmonious atmosphere.
