The human body needs energy to nourish tissues and organs. Glucose and many other components are the main energy elements that are extremely necessary at high loads. Therefore, a drug such as glucose in tablets acts as a metabolic and detoxifying agent.
Material Content:
Composition and form of release
The drug is available in several dosage forms:
- 0.5 mg tablets;
- 100 ml solution of 10, 20 and 40 mg.
Glucose tablets are white, flat-cylindrical and at risk. One tablet contains 0.5 mg of the basic compound, dextrose monohydrate. And also there are a number of additional components: potato starch, calcium stearate and talc. The tablet form of this drug is prescribed for the patient's well-being, improvement of his physical abilities and mental activity.
What is glucose for?
The human body requires glucose as a reagent for many chemical reactions. This process consists in the transfer of energy to all cells of the body and further metabolism. Glucose as a crystalline substance, improves the functioning of cellular structures. And also this element penetrates into the cells, saturates them with energy, stimulates intracellular interaction and starts the process of biochemical reactions.
Inadequate intake of monosaccharide with food causes malaise, increased fatigue and drowsiness.With intravenous administration of a solution with glucose, nutrient saturation occurs, the antitoxic effect improves, and diuresis increases. It should also be noted that glucose is an important product for normalizing the functioning of the heart muscle.
This substance is often used in medicine for the therapeutic treatment of many pathological conditions: brain disorders, liver pathology and poisoning. An equally important component is that glucose is a necessary element for the proper functioning of the brain. With its lack, difficulties with concentration are possible. This carbohydrate is also able to have a direct effect on the psychoemotional state of a person, improving and calming the nervous system.
Indications for use of glucose in tablets
Glucose in tablets can be prescribed not only with a general breakdown and poor nutrition (lack of carbohydrates).
The drug is also recommended for use in the following cases:
- With hypoglycemia (insufficient plasma glucose).
- With dehydration (vomiting, digestive upset).
- After poisoning with hepatotropic poisons of different severity.
- As a blood substitute fluid.
The drug is often prescribed for prophylactic purposes with vitamin deficiency, increased physical exertion, during a period of intensive growth or restoration of normal life after a serious illness.
Instructions for use and dosage
According to the instructions for use, glucose in tablets is intended for sublingual use, that is, resorption under the tongue. It is required to take the drug about an hour and a half before eating - this requirement is due to the fact that dextrose, which is part of the drug, reduces appetite.
The required amount of the drug is prescribed based on the age and illness of the patient:
- in case of poisoning, 2-3 tablets are prescribed, observing a two-hour break;
- with severe diabetes mellitus, 1-2 tablets are shown with an interval of 5 minutes, with a milder course of the disease, up to 3 tablets are shown with an interval of half an hour;
- for children, the daily norm (500 mg) is divided into several doses - up to 5 times a day, up to 3 years, tablets are not prescribed sublingually - they should be diluted in water.
When glucose is combined with ascorbic acid, careful monitoring of the kidneys, blood pressure and insulin levels is necessary.
During pregnancy and lactation
An additional intake of ascorbic acid with glucose may be recommended in certain situations. Often, the drug is prescribed for malnutrition. During pregnancy, the main purpose is insufficient weight of the fetus. In the second and third trimester, there is a need for this substance - at least 90 mg of glucose. However, it is important to consider that overdosing can be dangerous for the fetus. Also, glucose can be prescribed during breastfeeding, but the maximum amount of the substance is 120 mg.
Side effects and contraindications
Despite a fairly wide list of all kinds of positive characteristics of this substance, glucose can also harm the human body.
Excessive use of glucose tablets often causes the following conditions:
- Violation of metabolic processes.
- Violation of the normal functioning of the pancreas and, as a result, problems with the synthesis of insulin.
- A significant increase in cholesterol and blood sugar.
- The formation of blood clots and vascular plaques.
- Inadequate reaction of the human immune system, manifested by an allergic reaction.
Excessive accumulation of monosaccharide in the blood has an extremely negative effect on the vessels, which as a result leads to impaired functioning of all important organs. As a result, the possibility of developing atherosclerosis, kidney disease, heart failure, and even blindness is not ruled out.
The following conditions are categorical contraindications to the use of glucose:
- chronic renal failure;
- impaired heart function (in the chronicle);
- with a disturbed exchange of sodium in the blood;
- hyperhydration (excess fluid in the body);
- cerebral or pulmonary edema;
- circulatory pathology.
It should be remembered that for children under 3 years of age and for patients with diabetes mellitus, this remedy is prescribed with caution and only for a special purpose.
