Ezemalin is a growing hybrid that can become a real discovery for an amateur gardener. The berries of this plant with a great sour-sweet taste, they contain a whole range of nutrients and vitamins. This plant is unpretentious, gives a good harvest, and its bushes blooming in large white inflorescences are used for decorative purposes.

Species, varieties and description

As the name suggests, this is a mixture of raspberries and blackberries. Another name for the shrub is Logan Berry. The plant has absorbed the best properties of both “parents”. Varieties of hedgehogs are very fruitful, the berries are large, the plant itself is unpretentious to the soil and does not require particularly careful care. For the hostesses, these shrubs are a wonderful find. Ezemalin is great for canning, freezing, drying. They make juices, compotes, jams and preserves from berries. Fresh they are used for confectionery purposes.

Important! In addition to a large supply of vitamins, potassium, zinc and antioxidants, Yezemalin berries contain substances that reduce blood sugar and strengthen blood vessels.

It is customary to divide cultivars of varieties into species with spikes and without spikes, although the presence of spikiness does not affect the taste:

  • Yehmaline raspberry - has thorns, but gives large yields. Belongs to the most frost-resistant species. The color of the berries, like raspberries, is dark burgundy. The variety is quite resistant to diseases and pests, which explains its popularity.
  • Loganberry ezhimalina is widespread due to its excellent taste, but not too frost-resistant. The color of the berries is purple-red. It has a long fruiting period. The variety is without thorns, but requires a garter.
  • Boysenberry - bears fruit for a long time. The color of very large berries is blackberry, dark. One of the best varieties of hybrid raspberries and blackberries. It gives a good harvest.
  • Sunberry - has good taste. Due to its very rapid growth, it is suitable only for large gardens.
  • Tumelberry is the most frost-resistant variety. Berries are excellently preserved when frozen. Shoots upright and with spikes.
  • Cumberland black - has dark round berries with a light waxy coating. The variety is interesting in that it does not clog the garden and does not give growth.

Growing Features

The cultivation of peanuts is almost the same as raspberries, with some minor features. The fast-growing shoots of the bush must be tied up regularly, otherwise they will spread uncontrollably throughout the garden. Although the shrubs of Ezemalin are considered unpretentious plants, for planting it on their site it is better to choose well-lit places with loose soil.

Caring for Ezemalin

Weeds are undesirable plant neighbors. Their presence is very harmful to the bush and significantly reduces the quantity and quality of berries.

Mandatory grooming should include garter. Thin stems do not withstand the weight of berries and bend to the ground. In addition, without garter, Yezemalin begins to spread quickly and uncontrollably throughout the site. It is convenient to tie the shoots to two trellises. They are placed at a height of 1 meter and 2 meters. Fruit-bearing are tied to the upper trellises, and to the young lower stems. Branches tied in this way are better illuminated by the sun and less affected by disease. Garter also facilitates the process of picking berries.

In large shoots larger than two meters, the top is plucked off, thereby provoking the branching of the bush. Extra side shoots are nipped.

Soil requirement and fertilizer

The soil for planting shrubs can be any, but it is better if it is loose and fertile. Make sure that the planting site does not stagnate, this plant does not like excessive humidity. In general, Yezemalin is more resistant to drought than damp. Ideally, if this piece of land is protected from the wind, even though the plant is considered frost-resistant, it can still be damaged if the wind is icy.

Important! It is not recommended to feed the soil immediately before planting a shrub, this can provoke abundant plant growth and cause it to freeze in the very first winter. Better to fertilize after a while.

After about two years, it will be good to feed the soil with organic fertilizers, and then they can be applied every 2 years.

Watering Rules

During regular rainfall, Ezemalin does not need additional watering. If the fruiting period coincides with drought, you can water the plant, though not too often, but as necessary.

Transplant and pruning

Planting ezhimalina is carried out in the autumn or spring. It is believed that you can plant a bush in the summer, but not in the heat. In spring, you need to have time to plant the bushes that have not yet awakened, and in the autumn rush to the first frosts. When planting, try not to damage the earthen lump and not disturb the root system.

Planting ezemalin is recommended in rows, observing the distance between plants of about one meter. Aisles are maintained at 1.5 meters, providing plants with good illumination. A hole for each stalk is dug up approximately 40 x 40 x 40 cm in size. Before planting, the roots need to be well straightened, covered with soil and watered abundantly.

The productivity of the manpower directly depends on the correct formation of bushes. Plant pruning should be done immediately after fruiting or in preparation for winter in late autumn.

Autumn Care: Preparing for Winter

Some varieties of Yezemalin fruit almost to the frost. In late autumn, they prepare for winter. Remove old and dried shoots, excess and broken. The remaining branches are removed from the supports and take refuge. An important point is to have time to complete all the procedures before the onset of frost.

How to shelter Yezemalin for the winter?

The first years after planting, it is imperative to hide the bushes for the winter period to prevent freezing. In addition, there are some varieties of severe frosts, for which they are fatal. Such plants need to be sheltered every year.

There are no special difficulties with how to cover the menorrow for the winter. The shoots are neatly trimmed and laid to the ground. In order not to break upright shoots, they are specially prepared in advance. To do this, load is tied to the stems and gradually bend them down. They cover the plant with a variety of materials: spruce branches, straw, sawdust, tops of corn, film and roofing felt. Leaves of trees are not the best option for shelter, as they are susceptible to many pests.

Ezemalin: reproduction

Since the aforementioned berry is nothing but a hybrid, it is propagated mainly by cuttings. Plant seeds do not retain the properties of the variety and therefore are practically not used.

There are the following methods of vegetative propagation of hedgehog:

  • Root cuttings are the most common way. The roots of the plant are dug up, divided and cut, leaving 10 -15 cm, and then planted in the soil.
  • Lignified cuttings.
  • Green cuttings - the tops of green young shoots are cut off leaving somewhere around 35 cm and planted to a depth of about 25 cm. This method is used in August.
  • Root offspring.

Spraying and pest and disease protection

The plant is exposed to the same pests and diseases as raspberries, although it better tolerates their influence. The most common pests are raspberry beetle and weevil. If the parchment is damaged by pests, chemical spraying is recommended to protect raspberries.
