Hormones regulate the work of the whole organism, and female reproductive function depends directly on them. Duphaston is a hormonal drug containing an analogue of progesterone, the most important hormone that has a significant effect on the conception and development of the embryo. Why is Duphaston prescribed, how to take it correctly and what side effects should you be afraid of?

The composition of the drug

Dyufaston contains dydrogesterone. This substance, in its effect on the body, is similar to progesterone. Each tablet contains 10 mg of artificial hormone and auxiliary formative components. Release form - white small rounded tablets convex on both sides of the form are packed in blisters of 20 pieces. Prescription drugs are dispensed from pharmacies.

Pharmacological action, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Synthetic progestogen when administered orally promotes the onset of the secretion phase in the uterine endometrium. And this, in turn, minimizes the risk of pathological proliferation of the endometrium, normalizes its condition, acting selectively on it. Reception of Dufaston is indicated for a lack of endogenous progesterone and the subsequent pathologies. With hormone replacement therapy, for example, in the postmenopausal period, didrogesterone, when used together with estrogens, neutralizes the proliferative effect of the latter on the mucous membrane of the uterus.

Despite the fact that the drug is of synthetic origin, it differs from natural progesterone even for the better:

  • does not have pronounced physiological adverse reactions, such as sedative, anxiolytic, neuroprotective effects;
  • does not show estrogenic activity;
  • does not give an anabolic effect;
  • does not cause a jump in weight.

Duphaston is not a contraceptive! It does not suppress ovulation, does not violate the menstrual cycle.

When administered orally, dydrogesterone is rapidly absorbed from the digestive tract, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood after a couple of hours. Complete excretion from the body occurs after three days with urine. It does not adversely affect the kidneys and liver.

What is prescribed when planning pregnancy

Why is progesterone needed in general, and why is it called the "pregnancy hormone"? After ovulation, the ovaries begin to produce progesterone to prepare the uterus for a possible pregnancy. If conception did not happen, for a couple of weeks it continues to be synthesized, gradually reducing its concentration in the body. And if fertilization has occurred, the first 8 weeks the corpus luteum of the ovary continues to produce progesterone, and then the placenta takes on this role.

Thanks to progesterone, the uterine endometrium passes into the secretory phase, preparing the uterus for implantation of the embryo. At the same time, the hormone reduces the immunosensitivity of the mother's body, not allowing the fetus to be rejected as a foreign body. The contractility of the uterine muscles decreases under the influence of progesterone, which prevents spontaneous miscarriage.

Progesterone deficiency can cause infertility or miscarriage.

Duphaston when planning a pregnancy is prescribed by a gynecologist with the following indications:

  • irregularity of the cycle;
  • uterine endometriosis;
  • luteal failure of the first phase of the cycle;
  • non-developing pregnancy in the past;
  • ECO;
  • a familiar or threatening history of abortion.

And even with the onset of fertilization, the drug can continue to be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Duphaston during pregnancy gives additional "support" to the embryo, removes the tone of the uterus and prevents miscarriage in the early stages. It is imperative to adhere to the recommended dosage, and cancel smoothly.

Instructions for use Duphaston

The dosage and course of use of the tablets with dydrogesterone depend on the diagnosis.

So, the instructions for use prescribe a reception for:

  • uterine endometriosis - from the 5th day of the cycle, 25 inclusively - by tablet 2-3 times a day;
  • infertility treatment - 1 tablet per day from day 14 to day 25 of the menstrual cycle;
  • irregularities and with a delay of menstruation - from 11 days of the cycle to 25 days at 20 mg per day, divided into 2 doses;
  • miscarriage - 10 mg of Duphaston twice a day until the end of the 20th week of pregnancy;
  • the threat of miscarriage is 4 tablets at once, and until the symptoms disappear - every eight hours - one tablet.

Reception of Dyufaston does not have to be tied to the food routine: before a meal or after a pill is drunk - it does not matter.

If you miss one dose, you should not double the dosage the next time!

Drug interaction

There are no cases of incompatibility of Duphaston tablets or their negative interaction with other drugs. It is possible to accelerate the metabolism and decrease the effectiveness of dydrogesterone, if its use is made in conjunction with phenobarbital and other inducers of liver enzymes. Rationally combined use in planning the conception of Duphaston and estrogenic drugs, such as Proginov. To eliminate infertility, the parallel use of Duphaston and Clostilbegit to stimulate ovulation is often prescribed.

There is an assumption about the inadmissibility of joint treatment with Duphaston and the uterine uterus: a phytopreparation, when interacting with a synthetic analogue of progesterone, can cause uterine bleeding.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

Contraindications to Dufaston therapy are:

  • high individual sensitivity to the components of the tablets, especially to the active substance;
  • pigmented hepatosis (Rotor syndrome);
  • Dabin-Johnson syndrome.

To date, not a single case of an overdose of Duphaston has been officially detected. However, if you accidentally use a high dose of the drug, it is recommended to rinse the stomach and seek medical help if necessary. Treatment includes symptomatic therapy. What side effects are possible? In rare cases, breakthrough bleeding can be observed, for the elimination of which an increased dosage of Dufaston is recommended. No other adverse reactions were found over the entire period of prescribing the drug to patients.

Analogs

Dufaston has no absolute analogues in terms of the active substance.

The following drugs are similar by the mechanism of action on the body:

  • Utrozhestan. As an active ingredient, progesterone produced from yams is claimed. Utrozhestan is crushed both orally and intravaginally.
  • Prajisan - tablets and vaginal gel with progesterone.
  • Iprozhin - progesterone capsules.
  • Lutenil - tablets with the active ingredient nomegestrol acetate.
  • Norkolut is a progestogen with the active substance norethisterone.

It is advisable to prescribe Dufaston analogues for side effects against the background of its use or at the discretion of the attending physician. It is not recommended to take hormonal tablets on your own at the stage of pregnancy planning!
