Which group of antibiotics belongs

Due to its composition, Amoxiclav has a wide spectrum of action. The drug is used to eliminate bacteria, anaerobes. Instructions for use confirm the drug belongs to penicillins. This group of antibiotics drowns out the growth of microorganisms, preventing them from multiplying.

Pharmacological action, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Amoxiclav is a semi-synthetic drug that disrupts the synthesis of microorganisms due to amoxicillin. The second active substance is not a competitor to the first, it also has a slight antibacterial effect, retains the activity of amoxicillin to bacteria.

The maximum level of active components in the plasma is reached 2 hours after taking the antibiotic. The therapeutic effect begins after 30 minutes. The active substance is absorbed into the circulatory system by the intestines. The drug is excreted through the excretory system after 6 hours.

In which cases Amoxiclav is prescribed

An antibiotic is prescribed by the attending physician. Amoxiclav is used to eliminate the inflammatory, infectious process.

Typically, a medication is used to combat the following diseases:

  • sinusitis
  • tonsillitis;
  • an abscess;
  • otitis media;
  • pharyngitis;
  • cystitis;
  • prostatitis
  • bronchitis;
  • pneumonia
  • joint infection;
  • cholecystitis;
  • cholangitis;
  • infections of the skin.

Amoxiclav is often used to prevent the infection process against the background of surgical procedures.

Instructions for use and dosage for children and adults

The dose of the drug is determined by a specialist, based on the type of disease, the age limit of the patient, the presence of concomitant diseases, weight. The medication form intended for oral administration is used during meals.

This will avoid the development of a negative reaction from the digestive tract. The usual duration of treatment is 5 days. If necessary, it is possible to extend the course to 10 days. In this case, a laboratory examination of the patient is recommended.

Film-coated tablets

Amoxiclav tablets are prescribed individually, based on the patient's age limit, the severity of the disease.

  • up to 12 years of age, 250 mg is prescribed twice a day. If a severe degree of the disease is diagnosed, then the tablets are drunk three times a day;
  • from 12 years it is recommended to drink 500 mg twice a day. The severe degree of the disease is treated with a 3-time dose. Pathology of a complicated degree is treated with a dosage of 875 mg 2 times a day.

The tablet form of Amoxiclav is prescribed after 6 years. When an adult patient suffers from renal failure, he is prescribed 500 mg once a day. For pathology of the bladder, it is recommended to increase the interval between tablet use up to 2 days.

Important! It is forbidden to independently reduce the dose and duration of therapy with Amoxiclav. Otherwise, there is a risk of developing bacterial resistance to penicillins.

Powder for suspension

Amoxiclav suspension for children is used from the moment of birth. To make it convenient to dose the medicine, a pipette is included in the package. It contains 1-5 ml of the finished suspension. The recommended amount of the drug is calculated individually by the doctor, based on the weight of the baby.

Newborns per 1 kg of weight are prescribed 30 mg of an antibacterial drug. Upon reaching 3 months, a mild, moderate pathology is treated as follows: 20 mg of Amoxiclav per 1 kg of weight.Severe condition requires a different calculation: 1 mg accounts for 40 mg of the drug.

Lyophilized powder for injection

Amoxiclav injections are administered intravenously. Intramuscular administration is sometimes possible. In this case, a dilution of the powder with a painkiller is required.

Typically, therapy is performed as follows:

  • for the treatment of uncomplicated diseases older than 12 years of age, 1.2 g are administered three times a day. In severe cases, injections are given four times a day;
  • from 3 months, the dosage is calculated in accordance with the body weight of the child. 1 mg accounts for 30 mg of the drug. The severe course of the disease requires four times a day, uncomplicated - three times a day;
  • newborns per 1 kg of weight account for 30 mg of Amoxiclav no more than 2 times a day.

The therapeutic course with Amoxiclav usually lasts no more than 5 days. In exceptional cases, it may increase up to 2 weeks. If the symptoms become less pronounced, then the injection form is replaced by a tablet. Before the operation, Amoxiclav is administered once in a dose of 1.2 g.

During pregnancy and lactation

The active components of Amoxiclav easily pass through the placenta, on the basis of which an antibiotic is prescribed to pregnant women in an exceptional case. A medicine with breast milk enters the baby's body and can harm him. Therefore, for the period of application of the drug, it is recommended that the baby be fed with a mixture.

Drug interaction

Sometimes oral treatment with Amoxiclav with other medications causes an unwanted response from the body.

  • with glucosamine and aspirin, a slowdown in the absorption of the antibiotic is observed;
  • with laxatives, a decrease in the effectiveness of Amoxiclav;
  • with non-steroids, the saturation of the active components of the antibiotic increases;
  • with anticoagulants, coagulation deterioration is observed;
  • with folic acid, toxic effects on liver cells increase;
  • with probenecid, the process of excretion of amoxicillin slows down.

Important! The use of Amoxiclav along with oral contraceptives reduces the effectiveness of the latter.

Can I drink alcohol while taking the drug

Amoxiclav is forbidden to use with any alcohol. This is due to an increase in toxic load on liver cells, as a result of which side effects from the gastrointestinal tract are more pronounced.

Contraindications, side effects and overdose

Amoxiclav is not indicated for use in the following situations:

  • viral damage to the lymph nodes;
  • jaundice
  • intolerance to active substances, auxiliary components;
  • renal failure.

In the presence of kidney diseases, antibiotic therapy is carried out under the close supervision of a physician.

Against the background of exceeding the dosage, increasing the therapeutic course, the development of the following negative reactions is possible:

  • decreased appetite;
  • loose stool;
  • enteritis;
  • colitis;
  • skin rash;
  • anemia
  • headache;
  • decrease in the number of red blood cells;
  • Dizziness
  • convulsive syndrome;
  • jade;
  • hematuria;
  • dysbiosis;
  • pain in the stomach.

If side effects occur, discontinue treatment with Amoxiclav and consult a doctor. Perhaps there will be a replacement of the drug with an antibiotic of another group or dose adjustment.

Antibiotic Analogs

The selection of the analogue of Amoxiclav is usually made with its intolerance.

As a rule, for these purposes, the following antibiotics are prescribed:

  • Flemoclav used to treat severe infections;
  • Flemoxin Solutaba, which has a wide spectrum of action (effective against many bacteria);
  • Augmentin, which has the same active substances with Amoxiclav;
  • Amoxicillin, which as a result of improper use can cause the development of superinfection;
  • Sumamed, which is effective for the treatment of inflammatory processes of the respiratory tract;
  • Fibella, which is allowed to be taken regardless of food.

Before replacing Amoxiclav with analogues, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Since some substitutes have a greater number of contraindications.

Amoxiclav is a modern antibiotic, characterized by a low price category. It is successfully used to treat children and adults.
