British chef Ben churchill creates desserts that at first glance seem not particularly appetizing. Churchill's dishes look like completely different food - or even inedible objects. Among his most popular creations are an ashtray filled with vanilla panacotta dessert; delicacy in the form of spoiled mandarin; as well as a dirty kitchen sponge (actually also a sweet dessert).
It's hard to believe, but actually the contents of this ashtray are quite edible. At the bottom is frozen vanilla panacotta syrup. “Cigarette butts” are made of colored confectionery chocolate, and “ash” is made of gray glaze for gingerbread cookies.

How did the future career of a chef begin
Churchill became interested in cooking by accident. The future chef studied at the art school, but this path seemed to him unpromising. He decided to drop out and go to work as a cook in a local pub.
Ben did not immediately take up confectionery either. “I never made sweets, and I wanted to learn this. I started to master this art on my own, ”says Churchill himself. “I drew inspiration from films, video games, all the reality around me. Wherever you look - everywhere the world seemed to me rich in various details that I could use in my new hobby».
The principles that the Englishman follows
Ben noticed that people like conflicting things, and decided to use his observation to create goodies. “I decided to make a dessert that would not differ from an ashtray filled with cigarette butts. I like to challenge people. Indeed, at first glance, this thing does not seem edible. And not everyone will decide to try it. ”
The chef is convinced that the lack of formal training played into his hands. “I am not accustomed to abide by the rules. It's easy for me to do new things beyond generally accepted norms and enjoy my work, ”says Ben. "My main rule is the lack of rules. If you want to do something, you don’t need to ask others for permission. Ask yourself better how you want to do this. ”
In the following videos, you can see how the process of creating such realistic illusions occurs.
